Just looking around on the internet trying to avoid writing an essay and decided to look at the houses around my area and how much they cost to rent. I rent at the moment with 5 others and its stupidly expensive as its a 4 bedroom converted to a 6 bedroom with a greedy landlord. We're only staying due to its great location and also we all wanted to stick together - not many 6 bedroom places around.

I looked around at properties in Central, just thinking about the future and i was surprised at what i could get if i moved in with the girlfriend.

Anyways, what do you do and how come? So do you regret getting a mortgage? Prefer renting? Discuss.

Edit: Currently paying £390 a month, excluding bills. Location is close to Putney, SW15.

Define 'expensive' :p - Your place must be outrageous if it's expensive sharing between 6 :p

I share with 3 others, £400 a month each rent, 20 min commute straight into Liverpool St, can't complain! ***** area admittedly but means plenty of choices of fried chicken :D

I think everyone regrets getting a mortgage at some time. However, once it's fully paid off it's all plain sailing. :D

Rent on my own, cost the same in rent as a mortgage would but no deposit.

The 30% homebuy scheme is so tempting. but they don't build the cheaper houses with garages. Otherwise I'm pretty sure I would buy.

I currently rent.. Share with the misses.. she pays the bills i pay the rent.. rent is about £750 a month not cheap for a flat :( but its an expensive area. I have looked around at buying but i've moved jobs about 3 times in 6 years so no where feels right atm.. and the starting house price in solihull is about £200k so not th best place to get on the property ladder..

Rent at present though i've got around £40k in savings itching to go as a down payment on a flat. Just need to decide where i want to live for the next section of my life... not easy.

Rent £600 exc. PCM 3 bed house in Bodmin :)

Will probs buy in a couple of years when we are finacially more settled or we win the lottery :D

Own 3. Let one soon to be two. I buy because the market is down and it makes the best sense long term. Renting is a surefire way of staying in rubbish houses forever.

Currently in Redland, Bristol with 5 other people paying £312 p/m with water bills included.

Moving to Stokes Croft, Bristol in July with 3 other people paying £320 p/m. Right on the edge of town next to Cabot Circus, nice place :)

Mortgage at ~£690/month .... be nice if it was less. If I rented a hose exactly the same as mine (i.e. next doors) it would cost me £550-600/month in rent.
