***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

Anyone else had massive problems playing today ?

All I wanted was to play a few games with 3 mates, I could not get ANY empty dedi server even after 30 minutes of searching, ended up hosting locally but my isp screwed me and it was laggy for the others. Hope it clears up tomorrow or the day after, really looking forward for some games but it seemed the servers were getting hammered worse than any other time I've seen.

Same. Spent ages trying to find a server.

i found servers instantly last night and no lag what so ever on server or my game. from 7:00pm to 9:00pm

played the lighthouse & genrator room & Gas Station.

its mental the 2nd tank always seemed to demolish my team, but we had a weak team i was the only one alive after 4 minutes :(

Had some good survival games last night. Experienced some inconsistency in the waves of attack sometimes which make the whole 'best time' thing a bit of a lottery at the moment. Hopefully just teething issues...

Tried the lighthouse level standing on a rock at the bottom of the cliff next to the house (stand at bottom ammo pile, face downhill then look to your right). Seemed to be working quite well but then we didn't get any tanks for ages... until one dropped on our heads from above and surprised us into a quick defeat :)

Other thing to note was 4 shotguns together can kill a tank in seconds. Ploughed through a lot in the 'hospital' by just huddling together in a booth opposite ammo pile.

Be interesting to hear other peoples tactics. There is so much stuff (mollys, pills etc) littered about I wonder if the better tactic is to try and move around a bit more as a group ?

Yeah seems like there is a number of ways you can do things. Usage of your nades and canisters seems to determine how well you do, with a bit of luck thrown in too, I think.

Mollies really seem to be most effectivley used for a 20second "firewall" around your group. Pipes for when it starts getting hectic and you need to blase on the tank but also have hordes inc.

I did hospital NM last night and managed to get gold and you are right, autoshotty in the corridors and huddling together works well..

Also, because the tanks are "coop tanks" and not VS tanks, we don't set them on fire and just blast with shotty and they go down like a sack of spuds.

Still loving the update, friend has bought a server recently too so even though the OcUK ones were down last night - still managed to get some good games in.

We did an OcUK/Friends Death Toll, didn't last two hours and was good fun. I really liked it now it's been slightly redesigned and has the infected "ladders" available for cllimbing. Need to give Dead Air ago but in general loving the new release. It's brought back something to the game that had dissapeared over replaying those maps over, and over, and over :)

I'm liking the new update as well, annoyingly though there do seem to be some general server issues when trying to find one to join from a lobby. Also seems that there is rarely enough people not already playing to get into a versus game aswell, so I have yet to try the new versus maps (with the exception of a couple of rounds from Death Toll). With regards to survivor mode, tried others apart from the lighthouse as well as the Lighthouse last night, whilst introducing a mate to it who commented on how easy survival mode was. It was my first non-lighthouse game and tbh, it was easy. I then took him to the lighhouse, which soon changed his tune. Egon played with us as well and so did Wilkie and some other guy for a bit. It was quite good fun, but after about 3 or 4 attempts with the same team I do start to get bored of the lighthouse level...

Wtb paragraphs :D

Know what you mean though, I think all survival mode is like that. Play the same map a few times, improve your score with the team you are with and then it's either move on to another map or maybe go for VS.

I think survival is an action packed, condensed version of the game. Although time still flies and you can have 3-4 good attempts on lighthouse and next thing you know it's one hour later. (Better than 1.5-2hrs for a good VS game though, some people don't always have time).

From what I have seen so far, all the existing "survival" maps are fairly easy mode. The Lighthouse is anything but easymode, clearly designed with difficulty and the specific game mode in mind.

Think I'd be up for a DA campaign tonight as we did DT yesterday, so I'll make sure you get an invite if you are about. I think VS is still the way to go and sooner the novelty on Survival mode will wear off a little.

Has anyone else found that death toll is a pile of **** for hunters? Half the time you cant go to the top of buildings because of invisible walls etc. would have thought they would have sorted all that out before it was released..

someone else said that Repta

I've not had a chance to play properly yet

I'm sure they'll iron out any bugs that are reported on their forum, this is valve after all :)

edit

massive thread on it here

As for the Infected clips ("invisible walls"), there are a few reasons why they are more noticeable in these campaigns than in No Mercy and Blood Harvest, performance constraints being the most important of these. However, we'll be taking a look at which areas can be opened up more for the Infected without making the maps unshippable.

The ideal is to allow the Infected as many options as possible in the open areas, and we certainly aren't looking to balance the Survivor vs. Infected matchup by preventing Hunters from getting to tempting spots. In places where we don't achieve this ideal but can do something about it without killing performance, expect to see changes in the future.

I assume he works for valve, as I'm quoting a quote :p

I find the same thing to be honest. I like survival mode but I find that too much of it in one go gets repetitive. Whereas Vs I can play for hours as every game is different.

Best thing about it for me. Being able to dive in for a quick game !

i'd love them to add a few more weapons

like every now and again, you'd find for instance..

one deagle on a map, or one mp5

and before anyone shouts, i'm not asking for the full CS arsenal :p

I'd like to see them adding these maybe, but also when someone picks up any weapon it disappears until they drop it again. That way 1 autoshottie, 1 of everything stops people from all grabbing the same gun day in, day out. It would improve diversity I think. It would also mean one person is still on a tier 1 weapon, until they come across these bonus weapons or a teamate dies and he picks up theirs

I would love to see a game mode bring Expert back to the masses. I know why everyone loves VS, but I miss the slower pace and atmosphere of an Expert campaign. If you die in VS everyone has a good laugh, if you die in Expert it's a tragedy! They're like two completely different games, and no one gives a toss about campaign any more.

Changes such as the melee fatigue would also presumably make Expert campaigns even harder? They out to have erased the Expert achievements for everyone when they released that mod :)

I think you have used too many paragraphs there ;)

Anyway... I havent had a chance to play L4D for a few days. Did they bring out the other campaign maps for vs? And if so what are they like?

I don't :p Different section for different comment. Agree with link, time constraints, level difficulty and finally tonights game :P

Personally, I wouldn't bundle all in the same chunk of text :P It's also a lot easier to read, which is what I was getting at with Matt/Link ;)

Melee fatigue is Vs only currently

I could have sworn that it's in survival mode but perhaps because I've been poo'ing my pants the whole time...might not have noticed that! Surely that becomes even easier mode?

Definatley not in coop!

It's in both Survival mode and Versus mode, but not included in coop. I think that that is a good decision personally.

In regards to expert mode coop, I love it really, I just don't have the time during the week and at the weekend everyone plays versus (or survival I suppose in future) so you get to play with more people at the same time. I'll happily give ya a game or two sometime Lyon, I still need the achievements for expert coop :)
