My G7 has started sleeping during games (wont respond to a button press untill its moved if left unattended for a short while)

So I need a new mouse.
I moved over to wireless mice as I got fed up with the cable snagging.
Need some recommendations, I mainly play ww2online (see separate thread for how great it is;))
Need to be able to turn tank turrets fast and hold crosshairs with a sniper rifle.
Also need programmable buttons as my left hand is hopeless on the keyboard.

Thinking about going back to wired as the sleep thing is a pain but worried about snags.

I use a Razer exact mat on the speed surface.

I have just ordered a microsoft sidewinder X8

wanted to try a wireless gaming mouse, but the razor one is just to expensive
this microsoft one is wireless, I have seen a few good reviews on the net, and its a lot cheaper than the razor, I'm using a g5 atm, and its on its last legs after a few years use, served me well though

If you can afford it grab the Razer Mamba, I've read nothing but glowing reviews of the thing.

The mamba looks good but I cant justify spending more on my mouse than my gfx card. Im looking at the 50 quid limit (kinda everything except the mamba). Also my daughters spilt something on my g7 which started its demise.

get my x8 tommoz, ill post what its like

also it might be worth getting in touch with logitech about your g7

Had my microsoft x8 about a week now im liking it a lot, coming from a 2007 g5

felt a bit strange at first, a bit like putting a shoe on the wrong foot, but i'm used to it now, its really good

Iv'e always avoided wireless mice thinking I would get lag, but I cant tell any with this mouse, and it tracks really well, better than my g5 i think

The only gripe I can think of is, the mouse wheel is metal and I find it to be a bit too slippery, if I dont pay attention when i use the mouse wheel sometimes the mouse wheel stays put, and my finger just slides over it, my finger admittedly is a bit smooth due to the work I do though lol

overall though im very impressed with how good it is for the money, cant see how the mamba can be that much better, especially considering the price difference

edit: Forward/Back buttons are brilliant for surfing, only need a small move of the thumb

I would recommend the Steel Series Ikari Laser Mouse. It ticks all your boxes and is really, really comfortable to use. It's a wired palm grip mouse, and has a low and high sensitivity button, as well as programmable ones.

You can find it for about £50, which is at the top end of your budget, but it is a pure joy to use. OcUK stock the optical version, though I'm not sure how that one fares. Might be worth looking into some reviews of both.

Not sure about wireless mice, but I definitely recommend the wired Razer Deathadder.

As for cable snagging, I got around that by using a cable manager from Razer (I think its called the Armadillo). I got mine second hand on ebay for 4 quid in total and it's great! To buy new, the Razer Armadillo is pretty damn expensive for what it is, but I'm sure there are much cheaper options available from other companies.

...or you could just use a piece of gaffer tape as I used to :)

...Just in case you were wondering :)

I just had a quick look online and Play.com seem to be the cheapest (£12.99) although I wouldn't personally spend that much...but then again, a Deathadder and an Armadillo together are still a fraction of the cost of a Mamba and only just over your £50 budget :)

I use the logitech MX1100 wireless mouse. While this isn't stricly a gaming mouse, it works amazingly well. 1600DPI is plenty in my 1920x1200 and I play plenty of FPSs and find the comfort and accuracy of this mouse to be perfect.

I just use a bit of sticky tape. Stops the cable flailing about quite nicely.
I just make sure it's poking upwards slightly, and that there's enough cable free for movement.

:)

I currently use the G5. Its pretty good, though it took me a while to get used to it. I prefered the feel and size of a razer mouse I used briefly some years ago but the driver and or user error was a nightmare. Apparently I was not the only person who had difficulty with the drivers. Forget what model it was, pre copperhead I think.

Yeah, sticky tape is a nice cheap option (it's what I used to use). I found the Armadillo on the bay for only 4 quid...so it was a nice little upgrade from sticky tape :)

Finally had enough of my G7. It wont click on xps welcome screen and doesnt like asus splash screen.

So Ive bought a death adder. Hope going back to wired will be OK.

(wife is left handed so will suit her as well)

How old was your G7? I had mine replaced by Logitech at very nearly 3 years old as it had stopped right clicking. The MX1100 they sent me (entirely foc - great support btw) is a good general purpose mouse but not a real gaming mouse like the G7 was, so I'm looking at replacing it with a G9 as I'm a claw type user and the bigger mice tend to make my wrist hurt after a while. Gonna be interesting going back to wired for me too.

Let us know how the Death Adder compares to the G7 - I'd be interested in your thoughts as I know how the G7 feels.

Cheers.
