Putting a single rigid bar in from the start can cause problems with healing as every time you bend your ear you're going to irritate the wound. I went for a single bar from the start but a bioplast one which was flexible and bendy. After about 5 or 6 weeks it had healed enough for a metal bar. I've had it about 5 months now and love it!
They can go manky if not cleaned properly or if they become infected. After a camping trip for a few days shortly after I got it done, not having any cotton buds to clean it properly took it's toll on mine and it oozed some white crap and stank to high heaven. It was fine after a proper clean up though.[/QUOTE]
I got this once after stretching, pulled out the taper and it was covered in some white gunk that smelled vulgar. There was no sign of infection around the hole though, just cleaned it and it was fine.
Christ knows what it was
