My insurance quotes will make you laugh...

I'm 24. I got quoted £2,500 for a 1.8 escort. Third party, Fire & Theft!

I have a no NCB and a colourful past though :p

I managed to find one for £1,500 in the end trough Adrian Flux (capricorn)

Ant

I don't really understand insurance companies. I live in a terrible postcode (the second worst), the car is left on the road overnight (no garage) however I'm able to be insured fully comp on my dads 1.8l Passat (1998) for £800 extra on top of whatever my dad pays at the moment (hes old, 7+ years NCB so it's not going to be that much..).

I realise this is different as I'm not building any NCB etc. (which really is the main reason why it's so cheap..) but I have friends who are driving 1.1l Clios for £3k a year or atleast £2k+ for third party on a similar type of car... I don't really understand why they have to pay so much more and surely they dont have any more chance of crashing than me (which I realise is high ;)). The cheapest quote I could get to be insured on my mums Mini for £3k for TPFT...

And this was all for a 17 year old. Someone explain insurance companies to me!

I also need to learn to use less brackets....

It's because every single male under the age of 25 is a boy-racer guaranteed to crash 50 times a week.

If you're over 21 with any NCD and still paying silly money there's probably a good reason why (points on license, high IG car etc)

I'm 24 so by your reasoning I should be paying silly money, but the mondeo costs me under £300 a year to insure

Seriously allec, call up Footman James. I'm confident if I can ge a quote of less than £1k you can too....

I'm with Swiftcover as of feb this year, mainly as they completely decimated my previous insurers renewal quote.

Same here mate, I saved nearly £500 when I switched my old 7 Series from Krap Fit to Swiftcover - My current 328i is well under £230 p/a fully comp. :)

Try e-car Insurance, I am insured on my Omega 2.5 V6 (21y/o driving less than a year) for £1600 per year :)

Same here dude.
Swindle wanted about £850 or so, the Iggy Pop came over for tea and rather politely asked me for £308.
Awfully decent of the old chap IMHO.

Do quotes over the phone tend to be lower than those on random websites. I shall be looking at quotes soon, and being 17 it's probably not going to go well :/

Yes. You can often get a better quote by calling them.

I called Classic I wanted to be under a classic policy due to cheapness. I do not accrue NCB with this, though.

Well, when you are 21 the insurance companies no-longer seem to consider you public enemy number 1, and 2 years experience is worth a lot, but you can probably understand why.

Your insurance will continue to fall way into your 20s and probably beyond, although it's nowhere near as dramatic (on regular cars) as it is from 17-21.

Aye :)

bit of an odd situ which i dont fully understand. Ive had my license for 2 years in june, yet if i buy a car today and insure with churchill i'll have 2 yrs ncb due to learning/insured on my moms car. I spose they are just being nice and its their thing, but putting in 1 year against 2 yrs no claims is still a difference of 250quid!

Also, I wonder if i do get a car now and insure for a year etc, if i leave churchill after that will I have 3 yrs noclaims, 1 yr, or none?! (I probably wouldnt leave them, folks have been with them years and have helped a lot in various claims for us)

Try Bell and add your parents as named drivers on the policy (with yourself as the main driver and policy holder of course). This brings the quote down considerably with Admiral Group policies. Then get 'em to drive your car to the shops occasionally!
