RX8 :D

I've been after one of these since they came out but a desire for practicallity always steered me toward Mondeos :D Its an 04 192ps. I know they can be somewhat thirsty but I reckon if I take it easy most of the time, it won't cost much more than the 2.0 mondeo I part-exd. I won't get it until Friday probably :( No piccies cause we all know what they look like. Its in winning blue apparently. Wee bit miffed theres no ipod touch connectivity.

prepare for a shock with fuel economy, someone on here had one and replaced it with a 4.2 V8 Audi and it got better mpg

Congrats, nice car that, I like them.

You have to do soem nice pics when you get it! Ipod touch connectivity is the last thing i'd be worried about in a nice car like that!

but I reckon if I take it easy most of the time, it won't cost much more than the 2.0 mondeo I part-exd.

You 'reckon' wrong then. They drink fuel for a passtime, even when taking it easy.

That aside, congrats on the purchase, I really like them :)

"wont cost much more than 2.0 mondeo"

oops

Sorry but it will. These cars 2nd hand values are so low for exactly this reason. It drinks oil and fuel at an alarming rate. It will cost considerably more than your 2.0 mondeo.

You will be looking at sub 20mpg even taking it easy and putting in a litre or two of oil every 1000-1500miles. A work colleague had the 230bhp model and was spending £30 a month on oil alone !

lol I guess I know this really but would rather gloss over it a bit. I know that its a big commitment but I've never owned a performance car before and I do like me cars :D If its too much of a burden, I'll sell privately and buy another mondeo. Maybe an ST this time. Odd thing is, it costs less to insure than the mondeo :D Mondeos are superb cars though. I will really miss this one.

Echoing what's already been said here, I know 2 guys that both had one and both got rid because of fuel usage and problems with the car.

One guy had lots of random problems with the gearbox, the main one was sometimes it wouldn't go over 30 mph!

The other guy had lots of problems with starting up.

bit difficult to know what to say. Other than make sure you get a shell fuel card or similar that gives money off petrol :D

I guess that's why I found a small drilling rig kit in the boot :D Wonder if I can get it to run on jam? My neighbours had better lock their fuel caps :D

Yup. It was me with the 4.2 V8 with better gas milage.
You WILL be spending a lot on petrol, and I'm sorry to say, it doesn't really matter how you drive the car, the gas milage will be awful.

I will say this though. The 192 model is the runt of the litter. You get all the disadvantages of the RX8 such as the awful fuel economy and oil useage but without the 9000rpm screaming and 6th gear.
If you can cancel and get a 230 I would certainly do so.

You'll enjoy it thats for sure, I had one and as much as i enjoyed it it was the biggest car mistake buy i have to date, the depreciation is so bad its unbelievable :(, drinks fuel as if its going out of fashion, not to mention oil too, road tax is an utter joke because of the emmisions, oh and you cant move it from drive to drive without flooding it :), if you do make sure you leave it running for a bit or hold it at a few revs for around 10 secs to burn off the excess fuel, otherwise your looking at quite a hefty bill :( been there done that...not to mention the starter motors are very weak on the earlier one, mine was aulful.

Enjoy tho :)

haha - you still don't own a performance car. You have a moderately quick, quirky coupe :-)

oh and you cant move it from drive to drive without flooding it

My next door neighbour is always doing this. At least once a month I end up dropping the plugs for him to get it going again. No matter how many times I tell him, he always tries to do a normal foot to the floor "flood clear" thing - it just doesn't work that way on a rotary engine I keep telling him!

Heh so much negativity :D I like it and I can afford to run it and thats the most important points covered. I'm not looking for a racing car, just something that handles well and feels a bit different. Life too short not to be impulsive.

(I'm going to eat those words aren't I)
