What power does the queen have?

Im sure 95% of england dont like her.

She does NOTHING at all, we dont need her at all. There would be no change if we had her on not.

I'm 100% sure you are wrong. Do yourself a favour and read about what a head of state is, what they do, why every country has one and why none of them are free.

The Queen theoretically has an enormous amount of authority. Her de jure power is far greater than that of the PM. In reality, you can be 99.99% sure that she'll never use it other than for ceremonial purposes.

She's just there for show isn't she?
I was told that even if she refuses to sign a new law it can still be pushed though (perhaps on the second attempt?) or something along those lines.

She has the power to stop the hell that'd be a "President" Brown. *Shudder*

That's more than enough reason to keep a monarch.

Dunno, but she has the ability to read threads before posting.

Nope. If it actually really came down to it, she has the power to disolve Parliament, kick out the PM etc etc

Also, in relation to countries like Canada, Australia etc etc:
"Her Majesty, as Head of State of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth Realms, has the right to use the Royal Prerogative over any nation where she is Head of State"

Infact, in 1974, The Queen used her Reserve Power to dissolve parliament and when Edward Heath attempted to remain in power.

Because EU law does not effect the UK unless actually passed as a UK law, the Queen's powers could in theory be used to suspend the European Human Rights laws etc. In other EU countries, EU law supersedes their national laws.

If she did in fact do this, you couldn't touch her for it. She is constitutionally exempt from prosecution for ANY law passed in the United Kingdom.

She sits on her fat arse all day, and does a speech once a year at Christmas, apart from that shes worthless.

I hope she doesnt have long left. Then we have Charles... oh god how boring will that be!

How can a queen be a lord and a duke?
