Do you eat vegetables?

I wouldn't consider myself eating enough vegetables to be honest. I am actively trying to eat more however. I like a lot more now than I did as a child, though I still can't stand mushrooms, parsnips, turnip/swede, given the option, I'd happily pile them on a sunday roast :D

The meat would still take pride of place over the veg though ;)

veggies are awsome, apart from aubergine!

You're missing out! A great aubergine recipe:

Get a wide, flat oven dish, and do layers of

1. Ratatouille
2. Aubergine slices dabbed in olive oil, then flour.
3. Cheese.

Repeat until dish is full. Cook.

Great on its own, but I usually have it with a portion of salmon, green beans and mini roast potatoes with lazy chillis.

I find myself agreeing with that. I also find fussy/picky eaters really frustrating.

I guess I compare them to my diet and my way of eating which isn't entirely fair, however I still feel that being fussy and dismissing essential foods and relying on "comfort" foods is really quite outrageous.
I'll quote you and reply as I like you :p

I don't consider myself childish for not eating veg, but I will admit i'm a bit fussy. I have tried to like veg but I just can't do it. It's the same with spice, I can't handle a tikka masala because it's too spicy, it's just the way my taste buds are.

If I actually liked the stuff, I would eat it, but there's no point eating something if I don't like it, regardless of how good it is for me. Everyone I know accepts this, even my gf's parents (who are strict vegetarians) don't complain when I leave the veg from a rather tasty cheese curry.

I just don't "get" it I guess. I think leaving food is also rude. I think disliking veg to me comes across as a very immature attitude, but as I said I have a different attitude to food than most.

Five a day? Pfft.. i think i've said on here before i'm lucky to eat five a year.. i was never forced to eat them as a child, or given them on a regular basis.. and now i can hardly put one of any kind into my mouth without wanting to spit it out straight away. Same goes for fruit.

I hate it, i hate being fussy, i hate asking for things to be plain in restaurants and such - but no matter how hard i try i cant shake the idea that all veg is disgusting.

Maybe there is something wrong with me..

Yes, for example, you only class chocolate as chocolate if it's over 70% cocca, I class that a vile, putrid and disgusting :p

I do however, dislike the 'immature attitude' view that you're on about. People like different foods, it's nature. It just so happens that it's in my nature to not like veg. Like I said, if I liked them, even remotley, I would eat them.

I like a lot of veg, most days we have some veg.

I like:

Carrots, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, beans, sweetcorn ,cabbage, brussels Sprouts, asparagus and lots of other stuff I had whilst on holiday.

:)

I eat loads, I usually have at least one portion of something for my evening meal, lots of fruit throughout the day too, 2 bannanas squished on toast for example every morning this week :D (and most mornings).

Veg stir-fry is quite nice too.

I eat loads of veg. I'll usually use a chicken carcass from a dinner to make a stock and use it for minestrone type soups through the week using cabbage, onions, tomatoes, celery, leeks carrots etc. Along with a bit of pasta thrown in it's quite hearty and wholesome.

I don't think I can come up with a veg I don't like either!

Peas, broccoli, carrots, asparagus, potato, sweet potato, green beans, normal beans, cauliflower, courgettes, sprouts...

In fact, apart from peanuts (which will kill me) I think there's just about nothing I won't eat....

...Apart from rice pudding. There was a vomit/rice pudding incident when I was young at school in front of a girl I fancied - I have psychological issues with rice pudding!

Do olives count as veg? I think they're pretty much the only veg I don't like, but even then I'll eat them if they're on a pizza or something.

Actually, its weird, if you go to Asia, i have never come across any children who don't like their greens. It is unheard of.

True in India for sure.

I love veggies and veggie salads. I usually get more than 5 (7-10) per day. I don't eat any fruit. I'm not a huge fan, possibly as I hate sweet things (stems from being allergic to chocolate).

E.g. mushrooms in pasta for lunch. 6 leaves, spuds, green beans as part of my tea I'm eating right now om nom..nom..:

I have recently made myself aware of that fact that I'm not eating very many vegetables. And let's face it, there are essential nutrients for healthy living (physically and mentally), so yeah, I eat vegetables, and fruit.

I guess it helps that I have lately decided to take care of my body.

Massive plate o' food.

Holy hell, that's a feed and a half!

Love most veggies myself, if they're done right. Roasted red peppers stuffed with wild rice and herbs, served with roast potatoes and cheese is delish.

Hell, pretty much any vegetable is amazing roasted. There are some I really can't stand if they aren't cooked enough (for example parsnips - I can't stomach them if they're hard in the middle, they MUST be sufficiently roasted).

Sweet potatoes are the greatest thing on the planet.

Also, for those who think they don't like Brussel Sprouts, buy a stalk of the smaller brussels. Par-boil them for a few minutes, then fry in a pan with chopped bacon and basil until the bacon is cooked. They taste immaculate -- the salty bacon flavour really soaks in and complements the nutty flavour of the sprouts amazingly.
