Sikh police want bullet-proof turbans - Wait, What ??

uni- "one" + forma "form" = of one form.

I don't agree with this at all, but why are people accusing others or defending themselves of being racist? Sikhism is a religion NOT a race.

Deffo a religion mate:

http://www.sikhs.org/

A progressive religion well ahead of its time when it was founded over 500 years ago, The Sikh religion today has a following of over 20 million people worldwide and is ranked as the worlds 5th largest religion. Sikhism preaches a message of devotion and remembrance of God at all times, truthful living, equality of mankind and denounces superstitions and blind rituals. Sikhism is open to all through the teachings of its 10 Gurus enshrined in the Sikh Holy Book and Living Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

Sikh's, Muslims, whatever, proving my point that people getting too far up their own backsides to seperate these groups and appear PC correct in front of people yet the same people would probably categorise the majority of the British Isles as a Christian based society when in fact there's a good split of Christian and Catholics yet we don't hear of them getting on their soap box protesting do we?

If I categorised the religious groups incorrectly and caused offense then I "do" apologise (the anti-muslim rant quote was pathetic though!) but still stand by what I say, that a "Sikh" is a more religious officer.

And Christ on a bike, wouldn't the world just be a barrell of laughs if a Sikh armed officer shot and killed a Muslim extremist!!

Just... I don't know where to start.

I don't see a problem with it. They're simply asking the HO for it. The home office can simply say "no" if they don't want to.

And as far as ~J~'s opinion goes, from what i've heard people in the job usually put being a copper before their religion - so i doubt they'll be many highly religious people in the police.

I think your wrong, but don't really care enough to debate the issue.

And J just for your information, Sikhs were formed as an army in some respects so don't think they have any problem killing people.
Stop being so narrow, educate yourself and distinguish between "brown people".

I see absolutely no requirement to honour their request. A police officer has a duty to serve and protect the people first and formost, not faff around with religious dogma. The two are mutually exclusive.

It seems that in our haste to appease various religions/minorities we are starting to lose all perspective about just why things are the way they are. For example, the police uniform was not invented to offend Sikhs and to stop them following their religion.

I think this is why political correctness offends people so much - it is the rush for appeasement to the contrary of common sense.

So, sir, check you religion at the door.

They are not complaining. They are merely asking the Home Office and government to consider an alternative form of head protection for them should a Sikh officer qualify as a firearms officer.

I personally don't see the problem as long as the research does not cost too much.

Took the words out of my mouth.

For all the chit chat about "integrating blah blah they're in our country blah blah blah" they're actually asking to work alongside their non Sikh colleagues. However a minor point possibly prevents this and they wish to see if there's a solution.

Good to see there are still one or two OCUK members who haven't got the paper boy delivering the Daily Mail and the vote BNP sign in the window. Thank heavens for a little bit of sanity in a thread full of sabre rattling Engurlanders.

The very fact that someone has even raised the issue points to a desire to put the religion above the job. In my opinion that is a dangerous precedent and any request should be denied unless their is a damn good reason for it.
