Test Examiners

Some of you may remember my thread on my test last month.

I can't remember if I said this or not but the examiner was sort of lurching foward with every gear change or tap on the breaks no matter how smoothly it was done.

At one point, when stopping at the side of the road for a three point turn, he did it and I just sat there and looked at him for a few secs. He didn't flinch.

Anywho, during a lesson yesterday, my instructor noticed another learner driver who had obviously stood on the brakes and she said "If *examiners name* had been there he would have been jumping forward"

I told her I noticed that and she went on to say that at least 10 of her pupils have complained about the same thing.

Surely this behaviour is just to put people off when they are taking their test?

Makes me wonder how true his marking is too...

in my test, i went from 5th to 2nd, both me and the examiner lurched forward :p

-just that morning someone had really knackered my instructors gearbox, so he gave me a pass anyway :)

My first examiner did exactly the same, complete prat IMO.

Test I passed guy was a great laugh, welsh and singing half the time ;)

Can you have any say in who you get?

I.E. Refuse to have that same examiner?

Not sure you will get chance to choose, but hopefully you wont get the same guy twice.

Why not say something to your instructor and he might be able to have a word with the person behind the desk at the driving centre and you might get a better examiner.

You're never going to beat the system so don't fight it. Just get another test booked as soon as you can and in the meantime make sure that you are really well prepared. It probably isn't fair but I doubt there is anything you can do about it.

My examiner was a bit of a boring ****. Tried cracking a few jokes / just generally talking to him and he seemed to just grunt and look at his sheet.

Failed on reversing ( too close to car ) and my mate failed with the same bloke, test after mine, on... reversing!

My examiner spent half the test talking about his S2000 and how he gets screwed by tax for driving such a car. He also told me to go the wrong way and then used the situation to test my maneuver (turn in the road) when he realised it. Only got 2 minors.

Luck of the draw, I guess.

This is interesting because at the end he said to me, "I'm sure you'll pass next time" which at the time sounded like a normal thing to say.... or am I reading too much into it?

thats what my bike instructor told me anyway, after I failed a couple of months ago due to a very very petty thing which should have been a minor at the most.
