Isn't it scary how much on a night out?

Or, staying out longer and having entirely different idea of what a 'night out' consists of. If you go to a pub at 7-8, few bars, club at 12-1, a party after.. Easy spend £100+ every time.

I'd struggle to spend £30 in a pub, £40 in a club is loads but I suppose possible, and after parties are on the whole free. Add £20 for taxis and food and my absolute max is £90, which is literally for the one exceptional night out. You're doing something wrong if you're spending £100+ every time.
 
This is why I only take out money from an ATM at the beginning of the night, and never go back for more.

I'll never get a taxi so leaving money for that isn't an issue, and I don't really mind going without food at the end of the night, but if I have cash spare...IDEAL

Depends greatly on what sort of clubs you go to tbh, I passionately hate any sort of student nights, and most mainstream sort of club nights. If you were going to student nights, then I dont doubt that you could get utterly battered for £30, but you would also be at a terrible night.
 
I have some pride and drink real ale. Such as Reverend James, Abbots, White Star, Captain Smiths, Life Boat, Brains, etc etc.

Support British real ale manufactures. :D

I'd be ashamed of myself if I spent £60+ in one night though.

No, you get little gimpy 18 year olds who have never been out before in their life covered in neon face paint. Given the choice, itd be chavs every time. Id love to know what was funny about my statement Mulder, it holds a lot of truth for me.. And lots of others.

You seriously don't know what's funny about your statement? You basically said a student night = a terrible night. Some of the best nights out have been in the "crappy" local student club. I'd much rather be around people who were out for a good night than in Chinawhite with a load of chavvy slaggy WAG wannabes.

I don't see why anyone would have a problem with students having harmless fun. If having mates, getting drunk, sleeping around and having a good time is not your scene then at least don't be bitter about it because there are a lot of people out there and on these forums who do that on a regular basis. Some of my most memorable nights out at uni have been fancy dress/rave themed student bar crawls.

To be honest where I'm at uni the non-student nights out in clubs are full of drugs, creeps and chavs waiting to knife you because you couldn't offer them a cigarette.

You're all doing it wrong. Go halves on a bottle of vodka with a mate. £5 each. Try your best to get through it before you go out.

Simple :p
 
Here are my tips

  • Have a few/many drinks at home before you go out.
  • The first point of interest should be a Weatherspoon or some other cheap drinking place.
  • Don't go out too early as this leads to spending too much!

That is what I think, as do lots of other peoples. I think theyre full of little kids acting utterly moronic. Not all nights are ether studenty, or full of chavs.. You have just proved my point, and chances are you are exactly the sort of person that I avoid student nights because of.

Scott212, that is not what I have the problem with. Its just a different atmosphere. I dont care if an 18 year old with a popped collar and novelty sunglasses can down 5 WKD's while his mate takes photos for facebook. That is not the atmosphere I want. Give me people in their 20s, dubstep, breakbeat and free parties. To be honest, chances are the exact same nights that I enjoy you would consider 'creepy and full of drugs', and theyre all the better for it.

If you're talking about the london dubstep 'scene' then I'd sooner pass a golfball sized kidney stone. House parties are a giggle but this thread was about bars, pubs and clubs.

Anyway... So long as you're with friends who cares where you go.

As for spending money on a night out, depends why and where.
If it's a special occasion I'll just take the damage and sort it out later, if it's an average weekend, no more than £40.

Sound advice from iaind - if you still can't manage it, stop drinking.

Both are bad.

I hate student nights with a passion also, loads of idiotic kids going crazy because they have ever had alcohol before dressed up like ****.
But hey it can be fun if you are in the mood and freshers are quite often hot. :p

Go to the more trendy places and you get a load of stuck up people that are more interested in their armani jeans and their versace shirt and want to listen to awful music but the venue is nice.

Go out in my local town and it is even worse music, possible that I will be beaten up but hey it is close and cheap.

Luckily I have music student mates and ex music student mates that put on nights with our preferred taste in music and people, usually a few more random students and musically intellectual people turn up. Can't lose!

Because student girls are much better than uneducated ones, aged between 18-23, normally much better in bed and much more adventurous?

And your competition for the night is, as you put it, "gimpy 18 year olds who have never been out before in their life covered in neon face paint"

Drinks are allot cheaper, dress code is more relaxed, much less trouble and if there is its easy to deal with (again, gimpy 18 year olds)....
