Toyota will quit F1, Ferrari may quit F1 . . .

If a standard engine is introduced to F1 then Ferrari would quit and I'd support them 100%.

I think F1 is at a crossroads today. It'll be interesting to see what happens, but the revolutionary in me wants to see Ferrari and other F1 teams quit and set up a rival series.

Well Max and Bernie are doing the deal so I hear.
and since Birnie has the contracts for the racing circuts for some years
to come I dont see where the rival series will race.

EDIT= And when Ferrari said they would leave in 2003
They were the only team that broke ranks with the other manufacturers.
and they got an Extra $80mil for doing it but only if they win the championship and which McLaren did not get.
history is repeating iself again.

With these new regulations - is there anything to stop a team like McLaren abandoning this years car, start working on next years car for the restricted budget this season (like honda did last year), trim down staff and start operating on a smaller budget for next season with a less restricted car?

If the cap isn't enforced how will new teams come into F1?

There is almost a two tier grid now and to an extent there always has been. The haves and the have nots. BrawnGP have a good car hence their pace but as we know they can't outspend the other team. Theres always been two or three teams at the back and more often than not (rule change years excluded) this is soley down to cost - if you cap the costs it should make for a more competitive racing series. And this is what it boils down to and why Ferrari and Mclaren are having problems - they tried to outspend each other last year right up to the end and now they are paying for it.

What I do think isn't cost effective is the testing ban - if you don't test the car you don't have cast iron figures for performance. If you discover the car is a lemon its going to cost a fortune to make it competitive. If you had at least limited testing those parts that didn't work could be ironed out before race 1.

As for break away, well it didn't happen when the car manufacturers threatened a break away and its unlikely to happen now - if it does the break away won't survive more than a few seasons.

There really is a lot of nonsense talked about Ferrari in this thread. It's an unfortunate trait some people have to enjoy knocking those that have been so successful for so long.

a lot of people have short memories too, I remember before Schumacher joined the team they had gone years without winning the drivers championship and this was a real area of concern for them. MS came on board and got the team to rebuild itself around him and as a result they have pretty much dominated for the last decade or so.

Formula One changes. It goes in cycles with some teams being dominant for ages and then another one comes in and takes over. I remember the Williams days when no one could touch them and everyone wanted to drive for them. This year looks like being Brawns year, but who knows what next year will hold.

I for one love Ferrari, they are simply the most Iconic Marque in the world and for me they are what F1 is all about. Having said that I firmly believe that F1 will survive without them, because it has to.

New small privateer teams will join (Pro Drive have already expressed an interest for example, as have Lotus), old disappointed fans will leave - only to be replaced by the new young fans who join every year.

Formula One will change, adapt, survive - the racing will continue.

Oh god. I really hope that there isn't a standard engine introduced - it defies the very reason for the existance of the sport, which is engineering innovation and excellence.

A1GP does not equal F1GP!

Mosley wants A1GP, with the stupid 'boost button' and standard this and that and budget caps. Doesn't he not wonder why A1GP isn't anywhere near as huge as F1?

Dunno, ask Red Bull, Torro Rosso, Force India and ehhhh WCC leaders Brawn GP how they managed it. That's 5 teams in what, maybe 5 years?

Mosely is at it with this whole 'we can't get new teams involved without a cap'

Actually I think A1's biggest problem is lack of television coverage and/or advertising in this country. I think I've seen one race and that was a couple of weeks ago and I can't even remember what channel that was on.

I presume this new budget cap proposal will end the agreement where all the manufacturers pay Ferrari for the privilege of having them in F1?
I can see why this would cause Ferrari to get annoyed!

so all the teams that like to spend their way out of trouble are throwing their toys out of the pram...

Renault and Red Bull spend their way out of trouble??

Sky sports, but i think its biggest problem is its crapness. TBH if you had enjoyed it, you would have looked up what was showing it.

Well 4 other teams are joining then, and Toyota where the first to announce it, RB/TR the 2nd, so why pick on Ferarri?

Please back down FIA.... I don't want all these teams leaving F1 because you're enforcing rules that no-one really likes.
Either have a budget cap. Or Don't. It's not rocket science.

so why pick on Ferarri?

Because they are big and evil and cool to hate. I don't like Ferrari as a team. But doesn't mean I think they should leave or throwing the rattle out the pram. Some people just can't be objective.

I can't believe how many f1 "fans" their are, who don't want technology to be a major contributing factor in the sport. Go watch A1 or 911's they are all the same and then you can just see drivers talent. F1 is not solely about drivers talent and you will never get close racing like those series.

I find myself constantly agreeing with you. Well said.
