Seems there is a real issues with the V8 Audi is using, this should on paper be much closer but in my experience this is no suprise.

That's ridiculous! I can't quite tell from the video but I take it that it's a 997? I'd be interested to see a comparison between a standard C2 and an R8 as well

I was just down at my local Audi dealer, apparently they are still shifting R8's easily enough and just took delivery of the V10 version. Even the second hand ones are still going for good money!

I believe they need to address the power issues and come up with a recall resolution that fixes the coking issues with the engine.

The 911 is a C2S with 385bhp and weighs 1,460kgs and the R8 is 414bhp and weighs 1,560 kg. The R-Tronic will hamper power somewhat but on paper it still should be much closer that the video suggests.

At least when the American manufacturers used to 'lie' about their power outputs it was to under-rate them for insurance purposes....time Audi sorted this one. Fast.

They did a drag race on Top Gear between the R8 V8 and the Carrera 2S. The race ended with the C2S winning by a smidgen. Looks like that's another race setup for TV :p

Or Hammond can't drive for **** :p

To be fair Hammond was driving a Mk1 997 C2S with 355BHP as opposed to the Mk2 above with 385BHP.

It was also a brand new press R8 that will be 'optimal' in every way I suspect. It's when you start to put miles on the engine the power issues begin.

I'd be seriously miffed if i was the Audi owner. Who wants to pay £80,000 for a car that doesn't even make quoted power?

Surely they will have friends who will be owners to similar cars like in the above video though?

I have friends with all sorts of exotic cars but I rarely run with them and when I do it tends to be on someone elses runway or race track. Fact is most owners won't.

theres also the fact that a lot of owners of expensive cars such as the R8 wont ever get near their performance limit

They will be garage queens, tucked away in the garage during the week and taken out on a weekend for a spirted drive.

They'll never find themselves on a runway lining up alongside a 911 that they should be beating comprehensively, wondering "why does the 911 beat me in a drag race" as they just arent the sort to be interested in that angle of the car.

They'll go round and give it a bit of a hoon, and listen to the noise, but never really use the full performance and evaluate it against its rivals

This sort of person is unlikely to notice anything wrong with the cars, and due to the high price of the R8 / RS4, a lot of owners will be like this. Not all of course, but this analagy explains why there arent droves of audi owners banging on watchdogs door.
