I've kept a running build diary of this project over at www.locostbuilders.co.uk, but thought you guys would be interested in the final product...

The project started when I was 21 as an offroad buggy inspired by the likes of the bike engined Rage, but slowly became it's current design as an ultra lightweight 4 wheeled superbike :D

It's a GSXR 1100cc engine delivering approx 160bhp through a chain modified Cosworth limited slip diff. Wet weight is approx 350kg, resulting in over 450bhp/ton in it's current NA setup

The design whilst having obvious parallels with the likes of the atom, is completely my own, having gone through 3 CAD revisions and 2 physical!

60 comes up in little over 3 seconds, and it negotiates corners at a frankly frightening rate, I can't wait to get it to a track! It handles somewhat differently to most "Caterham" type kits, being mid engined and having a slightly shorter wheel base.

There are build pictures, CAD designs and videos at www.wr4.co.uk

I've been asked a few times if I intend to produce kits or turn-key cars from this prototype. It's not something i'd thought about, and its certainly not something I'm set up for (I built this in my garage, with a rudimentary toolset!) It might be an option to team up with a pre-established kit manufacturer. Would be interesting to hear what you guys would think of such a kit if made available?

Anyway that's enough rambling, hope it was of interest!

That looks great fun, the side profile looks a bit funny as it looks like there is nothing there, well there isnt. Might be worth approaching the kit makers see if they are interested in buying up the design from you for a few quid.

Looks good that. :)

Few questions, why have you got drilled and grooved discs only on the rear? I know it is mid engine but you will still have majority of braking on the front wheels due to weight transfer. Also any reason for designing the front bottom arms (from what I can see) to not be parallel with the ground?

Saitrix - actually the braking is set 60% to the rear, and it still locks the fronts, even with the larger discs at the rear! There is not the same weight transfer you'd normally expect as it's such a light car...

Well spotted on the front wishbones, you are right they don't sit parallel at the moment, I intended to use smaller wheels originally - this does mean there is more lateral movement at that portion of it's arc, but its well within noticeable limits - and most 7's suffer from the same issue...

I remember when you started this.. great work and effort to see a final model.. so many projects like this get little to nowhere.

Congratumalations!

Thanks very much for the kind comments! I was expecting a marmite response - Only true petrol heads here it seems ;)
