MONACO Grand Prix 2009 - Race 6/17 Official GP Thread

Despite the fact that overtaking is nigh on impossible at Monaco, making it perhaps the most boring race on the F1 calendar there are some fascinating short videos at http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8055684.stm of earlier Monaco GPs from years gone by as far back as 1961 (Ferrari, Lotus, Porsche, Moss, Jim Clark, Brabham, McLaren, von Trips & pre-Bernie and Max).

1992 with Mansell & Senna is worth a watch, Schumacher's 1st lap crash in 1996 is a joy to behold and the "extended" videos are excellent as well :)

The frightfully BBC commentator on the 1961 race is Raymond Baxter of Tomorrow's World fame.

I agree I don't think the Brawn is going to be too "hot" here. Their car is too easy on the tyres but at Monaco they're going to struggle to get the temps in a good range unless they do something funky with the setup.

I think McLaren will come alive here too. But I think RBR stand the best chance of a win.

Im thinking Ferrari may do something "special" this weekend though (like both finish)....

Well I knew Brawn were keeping things tight but a text message from my mate (on his way down to Monaco) just surprised me:
"Ross Brawn flies Easyjet. He's sat 3 rows behind me"

Ferrari have been ruled against in their bid to gain an injunction against the FIA's budget cap.

So thats Ferrari out of F1 in 2010 then.

Hey ho. If they do decide not to enter, then so be it. If they back down, then I'll still be supporting them come next season (though I might have to stay away from F1 threads if you lot are going to gloat ;)).

It's nothing to do with gloating..... it's to do with Ferrari should not be able to hold the entire world to ransom.....

GOod decision, but I'd not like to see Ferrari leave F1. Much as I do not like their current (for the last decade) team ethos etc.

As the court said, Ferrari's veto is NOT valid.

I'd love to see a Ferrari prototype racing against the four ringed beast, Aston Martin, Creation and Peugoat *amongst others*

They would have to enter the prototype class rather than the wussie GT classes though.
 
If the two tier rules are that stacked against 'rich' teams why don't Ferrari enter a budget F1 team and spend the rest of their money on Le Mans or something.

Maybe they aren't interested in F1 on a level playing field?
