In two minds on which card to get. Any 4890 users there who have swtiched from a NV card and had any issues with TWIMTP games? Thats my only worry as i play a lot of NV optimized games. ITs between the 260 216sp and 4890, only £30 difference and i know the ati card is faster but are there any issues? Will be playing at 1900 by 1200 with as much eye candy as it will allow.

Any issues with the driver, don't really want to wait a month for games to play properly. I don't want a borked bf2:p

I went from a gtx 280 to a 4870x2 and I experienced all sorts of problems. I woudlnt recommend it you. just stick with nvidia. many things that you take fro granted simply dont work with ati. check out the gtx 260 core 216

I have, only wish the 275 was sub £150 ext vat. Always bougt NV as i have never had any issues with the cards but loyalty comes at a price and thats the 4890 price:p

Similar here the prices of the 4890 are superb, wish nvidia prices would plummet like Ati

Don't listen to this anti ATI babble.

The 4890 is a superb card for the money and is more than a match for the 275 and blows the 260 out of the water at higher resolutions.

Grab the Asus 4890 which has just had its price reduced, you will not regret it.

sorry but my mate brought his gtx 295 to try it on my system and everything was working fine. WTH is wrong with this forum? is ATI giving you a share of its profits to support it to death?

People could say the same about you and Nvidia, also people dislike blatant fanboyism.

If you had problems with ATI, fair enough people have issues, but that does not automaticaly mean the entire company sucks and everyone else who says ATI are fine are lying.

If you want to suggest Nvidia cards go for it, just do so without making it seem they are the only logical option.

thats what I did. When I couldnt even get my 1080p monitor to work in its native resolution with ati drivers then it seems the only logical solution to me.

works fine for me on my plasma......

there's not much to add to Fenris's post - i wouldnt slam nvidia just because i had driver problems and i wouldnt do it to ati either.

whats wrong with this forum? most of us are far too level-headed. if you'd class that as a fault lol.

try it with vga cable then tell me if it still does when you launch a game.

At the moment ati cards, particularly at OC, due to some very good deals, a lot are a good bit cheaper than Nvidia. So of course everyone is recommending them.

I've never had an ati for my own system, but I'd still recommend them at the moment. (I've built systems for other people with ati cards)

My only issue with them is their power consumption on idle. If you run 24/7 mosly idle on GPU usage and pay the electric bill, in the long run some of the Nvidias may work out cheaper.

And possible noise concerns.

These issues are probably not issues for most people. :)

To the op get the 4890 its a lot of card for the money. It should serve you better at your resolution and since you want as much bells and whistles on in the games the faster card is more logical since the price difference is not that great. Both cards overclock well but at there max overclocks the 4890 would be the winner. I have had more ati cards than nv cards with not a problem from both company's drivers that was not my fault.

People should stop fanboyism tbh... I've had my fair share of problems with ATI and Nvidia Drivers...
the problem I faced with ATI with my HD 4850
couldn't do dual monitor setup without crashing..
the fix for it was simple.. reinstall drivers and make sure the OC facility in CCC remains locked, otherwise it would simply crash when running 2 screens.
The problem I face with my 9800GX2 atm are:
a small amount of flickering grass in Crysis warhead.
when flashed in CSS, you can't see a thing at all till the flash effect is 100% gone, cause the image just keeps on flickering.
Tried reinstalling drivers, messing about with settings, disabling multi-GPU. Still the same problem.
Still haven't found the solution for it.

Anyways, just go for HD 4890 !! Its a good bang for the money :p
Don't listen to people who says ATI drivers are bad, they both have their fair share of problems. In my case, I had more problems with Nvidia cards... but that doesn't put me off Nvidia too much.. the problems I face are probably due to my card being a dual GPU card. What does put me off more is the ridiculous price when you can get an equivalent ATI card for less money, so more beer can be put in the fridge.

Nvida has its problems too particly older LGA775 platforms and rebrading ;) however why buy there cards when AMD/ATI do as good job (if not better at times) and pay less for it ?

if you can spend £200 on a card I would get the HD4890, if funds are tight, than a good HD4870 (they are like pocket money now) would be ideal or a GTX260 216 core, I m no fanboi of ethoir and since I know the GTX260 can do it I put it forward I personly have two HD4870s, and a 24inch screen

I have also had more problems with Nvida but i m not put off them I was only put off the price of them and the LGA775 SLI chipset problems (once which I could have afforded when I built my current rig)

Gona go for the 4890, first ati card in a very very long time. Thats unless prices go down tomorrow. Any BF2 players out there who have got the 4890, any thing to add.
I think they should price cards by the fps, a bit like apple's and pounds
