I know FF13 i coming next year, but what decent RPG games are currently available on PS3. I have already played Fallout 3 and Eternal Sonata. I quite liked eternal sonata, but the game play got very button mashy as you leveled up, however the graphics and the story line I thought were really good.

Are there any other must have RPG titles out on PS3 that are available now or do I just have to sit tight and wait for FF13 ?

Demon's Souls in supposed to be a good action RPG, available on import, it has also just been announced for release in the U.S, not heard if anyone's picking it up for the EU yet though.

The advantage of the PS3, as i'm sure you know, is that region isn't an issue :p

I shall be picking that game up the moment it hits US shelves.

True, but I'm a tight git atm and the JAP import prices are crazy, hopefully the US import price will be cheaper, if not I'll wait to see if a publisher decides to pick this up for the UK.

Assuming the U.S and Europe will get the PS3 enhanced port of Tales of Vesperia in the future, then that could be one to look forward to. Otherwise it's only the Xbox 360 version currently.

Another huge vote for Valkyria Chronicles. Such an underrated PS3 masterpiece that needs more exposure.

There's Enchanted Arms. It's not bad. Graphics are a bit plain but I thought the story was quite good of what I played. I only had it on rental and sent it back prematurely so I could get Call of Duty.

I played the demo of VC and it didn't grab me (although after reading the comments on here I really hoped it would).

Is it a poor representation of the game? It felt like the gameplay would become very repetative?

Very poor. It hardly covers the story or management at all. There's far more to the game than in the demo.

The map in the demo was the first level in the game, you are restricted to 3 units in that level in the full game, this limitation is reflected by the size of the level. Some of the levels in the full game are around 10 times the size and have multiple times more enemies. The game also has a lot of depth in terms of squad management in between missions.

In short, the demo was certainly not a good representation of the game.

another vote for Valkyria Chronicles if you even remotely like tactical turn-based RPGS.

however i am glad i own a 360... coupla weeks time... some big RPGS coming to these shores :D

STAR OCEAN: The Last Hope

Tales of Vesperia (think there was a demo out for this?)

Bah, Star Ocean, Id love to get that but im 360'less.

Was thinking about picking up Disgaea 3, The clostest thing ive played that even remotely looks like it is Final Fantasy Tactics in GBA, anyone whos played either reckon id like it? :)

Disgaea 3 is fantastic. I imported it from the US as it was released there a long time before it was in the EU. Be warned though, the game is very large, the storyline is rather lacking in comparison to the stupidly huge size of the game. There are probably 4 times more side-missions than there are story driven missions. It's one of those RPGs that you play for the sake of levelling up your character primarily, advancing the storyline is just a bonus. Really enjoyed it though, had never played a Disgaea title before. The gameplay is very similar to FF tactics.

I quite liked Enchanted Arms; admittedly the PS3 version is supposed to be a very bad port but how bad can it be? I also played it 3 years ago now so my memory may be being kind.

Sacred 2 comes out in a couple of weeks which is an action-rpg/diablo-open world game or you could always just get Oblivion for cheap which offers a lot of game for you money and I still rate as one of the best rpgs of the last few years.

I personally disiked Eternal Sonata and didn't think it was a patch on Lost Odyssey, Last Remnant, Blue Dragon or even Infinite Undiscovery. Much like you I think it was let down by requiring some crazy button mashing at the end especially if you did the final bonus dungeon.

For PS3 when does White Knight Chronicles appear? Other than that Tales has just been announced (you'll be able to grab this region free hopefully as soon as it appears as there's still doubt whether it'll get an EU/US release) and a few very good Strategy JRPGs. Biowares Dragon Age is multiplatform and will appear later this year and it's rumoured Sony has a few unnanounced JRPGs in development.
