VAG 'Long-Life Service'...?

Hi all,

Please could somebody explain to me how this Long-Life Service plan thing is supposed to work?

Was it for Petrol and Diesel cars?

...is it like - Car only needs servicing every 12,000 miles or 15,000 miles? or every 2 years etc..?

IIRC you have to drive the car like an old aged pensioner on a Sunday and then it qualifies for the long life service plan.

Cars on the long life service plan use fully synthetic oil and depending on usage can go up to 20,000 miles or 2 years between services.

My car was on long life but the previous owner soon swapped it to regular servicing, but continued to use the long life oil, and I have done the same.

If I were you I would stick to fixed service ...i.e 12 months 10 K.

20K or whatever miles after 2 years is too long imo.

I agree and so did the VAG specialist I took it too.

Apparently it was aimed at fleet cars, ie 1 service in 3 years of ownership instead of 3 or something...

I used to service mine with Audi on longlife, now change oil myself use longlife oil and change it every 16k, my engine is fine, this oil is designed to do it, thats why it is so expensive.

Thats the whole point the car doesnt do 20k service intervals unless its driving style is able to. I had a car on long life servicing and due to the way it was driven its service came up at 9k. Car and oil companies havent invested millions into engine/oil developement to extend service intevals if they werent able to work well with it. After all they make more money by changing the oil sooner.
