Whats the best 1TB drive out there at the moment?

Samsung F1's still liked for their speed or WD black editions much more solid now?

and are seagate drives back to business now or still not good?

In the last 3 months I bought 3 Samsung F1 1TB drives.
First, in january I bought Samsung F1 1TB - great speed, no problems at all.

Two weeks ago I bought second one F1 1TB - strange sound after boot, speeds not so great (15MB lower than the first one in HD Tach).

Three days ago I received third one - no problems at all, speeds great (same as with the first one).

The difference? First and third have firmware ending with number 13, the second one (which is slower and makes strange sound after boot, but otherwise works normally) has firmware number ending with 18.

So, I am gonna keep using first and third one, and the second strange one will serve as a backup out of PC.

Just thought I would share my experience with 1TB drives : ).

how do you see the firmware number?

I got an F1 a few months ago - silent and fast. A few days ago got a new F1 that had the strange start up sound - but it seem to hum in my case - so was RMA'ed. One I got now is silent like my first one. Both end with 13 like yours - didnt test the other drive.

You should have! I bet it also have some other firmware.I wonder what the deal is with those firmwares?

I bought a bunch of Western Digital RE3's to stick in RAID5 and they have been awesome so far. Very happy with them :)

Volume is larger than 2199GB btw, don't know why it showed up small in HD Tune...

The results were taken on Windows XP x64, I was aware of the volume limit of x86 and the volume only showed up this size before formatting it.
