MONACO Grand Prix 2009 - Race 6/17 Official GP Thread

I think its a given that Kimi will lead after the first corner. Then it's down to how much fuel he has onboard.

and race strategy as a whole

The one thing Button hasnt done well recently is off the start line.

He could easily be 3rd or 4th going into 1st corner given KERS cars, RB being a better starter on a few occasions recently and even Vettel potentially being dangerous (only potentially because he should be far enough behind from the Grid)

Should be a good race

I know thats what you were attempting to say - lets just say you missed the mark by a big margin and leave it as that ;)

And having to rely on passing another car in difficult conditions on the last lap of the last race of the season to win it doesnt demonstrate anything more than luck than judgement :p

Thanks :D

My sentiments exactly on the LH front at the time, but tbh I find it a little amusing people comparing LH with JB, in my mind there is little comparison. Put LH in that Brawn today and he would be outclassing the field by >0.5s guaranteed. Just because JB can win (by a whisker) against his 37 year old team mate, doesn't make him particularly great ;)

I don't think Button is Hamilton great - and certainly not MS/Senna/Prost great - but that final lap he pulled out today? That was something special. Even since the start of this season I think Button has improved markedly.

Thanks :D

Hilarious. How many unforced errors have we seen hamilton make in the last 2 years? More than Jenson in the last 6.

Half second my backside. Is he better who knows, it's not like Hamilton would ever race him as equals in the team.

hamilton was in his 2nd year and racing for a championship, button wasnt.
-----------------
button did a great lap to get pole, his fastest of all 3 quali sessions.

i do think kimi will be leading by first corner and then its just if he has more fuel than button.

i also have a fealing hamilton will pull of some crazy moves and get up a fair few places in the first laps but then clip a wall or lose a wing to someone from trying to hard.

still have button down for the win tomorrow though.

also predict 2 safety cars.

I think with LH he has done well to flatter to decieve - he easiest the best racer weve seen since Senna and drives his car with passion and makes F1 far more interesting as a spectator sport, but does that make him a great driver, I dont think it equates to be the same as he keeps showing time and time again that when he doesnt reign in his passion or temper his thirst to be first on every timing sheet possible that he makes mistakes - not a few but indeed more than someone as great as people think he is, should do.

To me is a pretty big flaw, as looking over his F1 career to date he showed more promise in his first season and since then, yes hes won the WDC now, but all the promise and accolades he got in his first season really dont appear destined to be fufilled. LH more and more reminds me of Ronnie O'Sullivan, someone else that has had all the plaudits at his feet and for all the things hes done in/for Snooker, theres always the niggling question that we he really could have achieved (or perhaps still can)...

Hes a better driver than JB - I 100% agree with that, but LH isnt as great as we all think he is - the next few seasons will make his career if he decides to step up his game and become a great driver rather than just a great racer...

It's still early in his career, he has plenty of time to acquire a more level head. But, yes, in his career so far he's shown himself to be a stunning talent, but with tempremental flaws that have already lost him one championship and - unless he learns to balance himself better - may cost him more in the future.

Still, I was impressed with what he said when he was interviewed afterwards: no excuses just an apology.

Blimey spectacular crash in the GP2 race Roman Grosjean hit the back of the guy he was trying to pass, the car went airborne and ended up on proped on top of the barrier!

The camera was right on the corner where he slid along the barrier (got a great view of the crash!) and the cameraman would seriously have needed new underpants if he didn't move out of the way in time cos the car can't have missed the camera by very far

Grosjean was ok btw.

I'd rather have a great racer than a great driver.

Someone willing to go wheel to wheel rather than wait for the pitstops to overtake.

Just watched it all, and that was quite entertaining stuff all-round..

Loved Kimi doing so so well, I genuinely felt sorry for him when JB did yet another amazing feat and pinched pole, it'll be interesting to see fuel loads, but clearly JB and that car is 'the' best alround package still this year.

Total shame about LH for me, I wanted him to be pushing the macca near the front, and over the weekend you can see just how much he has been pushing it to get it performing.. unfortunately Monaco is not the place to be so on the limit in these things, so clearly despite any talent he has, there is room for improvement..

Looking forwardish to the race, I think watching the first 2-3 laps will pretty much set the tone of the race, then you might as well go for a beer and drop in 5 laps from the end to see the procession come to it's conclusion..

I totally expect LH to bin it tomorrow, he will be trying to overtake and drive the car on the limit which is just going to end in tears.. If he was starting in the top 4 I'd expect him to have been in with a shout..
