MONACO Grand Prix 2009 - Race 6/17 Official GP Thread

its nothing to do with turning it around, its simply that both the ferrari and mclaren have a rubbish amount of downforce, so theyre slow at normal tracks, but at monaco downforce hardly matters.

If i was listening correctly they are running similar ammounts of downforce to barcelona. The key here is mechanical grip, the big problem for the Maclaren is through the high speed corners somthing Monaco lacks. Im looking forward to the race, especially the start. Im really unsure if Kimi has the ability to get infront of Button. He has the KERS advantage and also lighter but if Button gets a better start and cuts him off it should be plain sailing for him.

What was going on with DC and Eddie Jordan on the coverage? Bit of sexual frustration?

To me it seems they tolerate having to work together and have little digs every now and then.

I'm just not sure If I can warm to EJ or not. Most of the time he irritates and then he says something without holding back and it's pretty much on the money. Like his kimi should be sacked rant. :D

Of course downforce matters at monaco, it's outright power that doesn't matter as much at monaco.

I think you are in for a surprise how much both have come on in the next race.
it barely matters, its all about the mechanical grip.

fiver on mclaren and ferrari being further back at turkey :)

I find it uncomfortable to watch EJ and DC on the BBC. They are always getting digs in at each other. Bring back Murray Walker and James Hunt, I say. Oh. :(

I find DC perfectly watchable - and I didn't think I would. He seems quite at home in front of the camera.
EJ is like some crazy old man you meet drunk at a party and tries to join in every conversation.

Pretty much my opinion too. Expanding on that crazy old drunk analogy, he also seems to repeat the same old stories every weekend which get boring very quickly.

Eddie confuses me, he starts talking to DC for example then just aimlessly looks around as if he has lost something, probably the plot!

Might be worth starting from the pit lane for Hamilton though, if there is any first corner carnage he won't have to try to get through it, obviously that depends on him being able to pass on track though :p

Very interesting point. Much less risk than following Piquet around the first corner :p

Do cars running with KERS start with a full charge or must they build it up first? If starting witk KERS Kimi might have the upper hand.

Yes they have KERS at the start, its already been put to great use at every race this season off of the line.

Wow just wow makes Buttons lap even better,

just the table i was looking for, and the very last post too.... Thanks.

700kg cars  almost like the "old days" when ALL cars used to do 50+ laps at monaco. The Longer you went the better you was. Hell im sure i can remember someone not stopping till lap 60 one year?

In the re-fuelling era, I can remember Mika Salo running the entire race in '97 on one tank - with the rain slowing proceedings down so they only got 61 laps in during the two hour limit, and the Cosworth V8 being pretty frugal as F1 engines go, he was able to manage his fuel and tyres and get up in to the points. Think he ran the last part of the race with a broken front wing as well! It ended up being Tyrrell's last points in F1.

I can't believe you are offering me a fiver when Hamilton starts this race from last so will be miles up from that in the next race. Unless he stacks it again I can't lose :p

;)
