So last night there was a few screams at the bus stop outside my house but i didnt end up going to see what it was because the girl laughed right away.
This brought on the thought is society become desensitised to screams? Because of the ongoing amount of stupid girls screaming and mucking about in the streets we dont seem to bother about going to see if they are ok because we assume its someone messing about.
Years ago if you heard a girl scream you would go to see what it was but the whole "boy who cried wolf" story has taken over.
Anyone else finding this?

I agree with this, however, when I was at Uni one night I heard a girl scream but it was completely different to normal drunk girls falling around on the way home, you could hear the distress and I could see a bunch of other people in my building were looking out to see what was happening.

I went down to find out what was going on, turns out the girls boyfriend was getting seriously violent towards her, shoving her against the wall etc. police turned up just as I got to them though and took the bloke away.

While I was showering once in my current house, I heard screaming outside. I quickly got out the shower and dressed to go to the rescue. Turns out it was my flatmate, who's room is next to the bathroom, was watching a video of a pig squealing.

Different types of screaming. I live in front of an alleyway, which is quite a throughroute. There are screams everynight. There are fights and shouting everynight. Only once have I heard that blood curdling scream, which I investigated.

as has been said you can tell the difference, same goes for kids they scream and shout all the time while playing, but you can tell if it's a scream that needs your attention. It's nothing new though.

Hmm I would agree that since I get woken most nights by drunked girls screeming I ignore it. Also I had an ex-gf who would screem at the top of her voice at the slightest attempt at tickling, so now I am put off screemers for life :p

*edit - If theres real trouble most people shout for help now. I never here someone shouting "Help me" in jest

yup

the same way no one cares about car alarms anymore

when car alarms were first 'out' everyone would wonder over and see what was going on if one was set off :p

Yeah I was gonna mention how the different types of screaming affects us and how more people say "Help me"

I heard a scream last night too, didn't really convince me to run out and save them though. :p

Always a difference to what a scream is and a yelp of over excited joy.

Haha, reminds me of the time when my dad came to pick me up from school and I started shouting "help help I'm being kidnapped!" Lol

Someone who's genuinely in trouble will let out a much more noticeable scream. I've seen and heard a girl screaming whilst she was getting the **** beaten out of her outside a club by other girls and the screaming was so piercing and horrible :s

I almost never pay attention to screams.. never really heard one that thought - hmm, maybe I should have a look.

As someone said, I think people are more likely to scream "Help" if they actualy needed help.

And house alarms, there are so many going off now that people just get annoyed, rather than check.

The sooner more cars have inside alarms (those that make it impossible to sit in a car but can't be heard outside with doors shut) the better.

I hope you told her to put a sock in it.
