Stop............. Kuro time

They are the bees knees, I can't comment on screen burn yet though. I've certainly not read any issues.

Especially if you run it in for 200hrs and also ensure the orbitor is turned on (moves the image around the screen)

Do phosphur trails reduce as they bed in?

Don't worry about screen burn/ image retention. Only gonna maybe be a problem if left on a static image for a very very very long time.
They are universally regarded as the best you can buy

Really tempting to buy one of these 50Inch Kuros. We're going to be decorating the living room right after Christmas and currently I'm trying to piece together a new design.

So are these Kuros the bees knees? I'm just a bit put off with all this Image screen burn / rentention that comes with Plasmas. What is it like with the Pioneer Kuro range?

Not fussed on a stand for the the TV, will be looking at wall mounting it above the fire place.

I've currently using a 32inch Samsung, although I loved it at first. I'm starting to squint my eyes while watching from a distance.

IR really isnt a problem with this screen. If you pause something for a long time (and i mean a long time) you may get a small amount but will go within a matter of minutes when you start to watch something lively. I have not heard of any permanent screen burn with the LX5080's or 5090's.

I half-burnt / got retention on Hayden Panettiere's outline into my new plasma....I use my PC to play music while I work on my laptop and keep forgetting I leave the plasma on, with the same image I have on my desktop which is a very bright Hayden on a completely black background. Cue hasty leaving screen on moving images before gf visits :o

(It is now ok :))

Edit: This was on a Panasonic TH-42PZ80. Parents have an 8G Kuro and I've never seen any problems whatsoever, even with my brother's gaming. Though the screen is well run in now (over a year old).

The Kuros are by far the most resistant to IR and Burn of all plasmas. Only one guy on avforums had bad IR of the GTA4 radar, but he played for many hours a day ~5-6hrs solidly for over a week, used elavated contrast setting. His IR went after about a month of washing it away, but he still took a pic with stupidly long exposure that showed it there, nothing the human eye could ever see.

I have played games for many hours, but if you just use the tv everyday with some tv, maybe a few films, and some gaming, there is nothing to worry about, they are nigh on bullet proof. And yes they are the bees knees, nothing comes close to them, and nothing has even surpassed last years Kuros. They are a good 2yrs ahead of the competition.

Are the settings global or input specific?

I do like the Samsung setup menus and input specific settings

Yup input specific, but unfortunately you need to alter the Pure Cinema setting for each input which is a little annoying.

For me I have Input 4 HDMI as PS3 with custom bumtious settings, Drive mode 1, and Pure cinema manually set to advance/off. Input 3 HDMI is HD-dvd and has same settings as no. 4. Input 2 is freeview and always is in Drive mode 2, with Pure cinema manually changed to OFF.

Each input should have the picture configured in MOVIE mode, which will remain for each input, as well as the Drive mode. Pure cinema will have to be adjusted for each input as it isn't input specific.

Ok cheers, only problem I have is that the AV reciever will be in one HDMI socket, with the HD DVD player and Xbox plugged into it, although I have just re-read and noticed the settings are the same.
Do you use dot by dot at all?

This isn't too much of a problem on my samsung as I have set it up for the HD-DVD player and then on the logitech harmony it will put game mode on for the XBox. Game mode has nothing you can change.

What is game mode like on the Pioneer? Does it add the 100hz function automatically? And does it allow any adjustability?

I haven't done much yet with setting it up. Just had it on movie mode on normal Tv on a low brightness to run it in. Can't wait to plug iti into some proper HD stuff.

Use dot by dot for 1080p sources, sorts out any overscan issues.

Also forget game mode, just use the same movie mode settings, the bumtious ones reallyare that good to start off with.

What is the best way to get rid of image retention, temp screen burn?

USe the image wash in the options (sweeping white image), or flick onto an untuned channel showing snow. But be careful as some tvs after a while on untuned snow do flick onto another channel, not good if it's a channel which doesn't come on for hours or has finished, thus shows a static image.

Not something to worry about at all on the pioneers, but other sets you might need to, especially the LGs.

Yeah mine has a screen wash programme I generally use this, just wondering if there are any better methods :D My set which is a Samsung doesn’t suffer from screen burn it occasionally gets image retention like the Sky Sports banner etc, using the programme for about 30mins clears the whole screen, I usually do it twice per week, would it be better doing it more regularly to stop the image actually permanently burning into the screen?

Seeing the image of the Panasonic set above with all the screen burn looks shocking!

Don't forget that you would probably not see that IR on the panasonic. Mark on avforums delibrately did that and mentioned that it was a very long exposure just to show the effect. I think that panny was abused a bit more, but still that IR would not be seen by the naked eye.

I could probably take a picture of IR on even a Kuro after a gaming session and agood enough camera.

Don't worry about it too much unless it is obvious on a dark image or onthe dark borders whilst watching a film.

Finally, the lighting is provided by a remote control set of LED bars that can be calibrated for all RGB colours. 2 are on top of the screen and one down each side. they can be found in the power buy forum over at avforums, and cost 67 for that specific kit of x4 15inch bars, and the bar sizes can be tailored for your specific tv. you can see the affect they have, and it looks far far better in real life.

Have you got a link to these?

I need something to provide some subtle backlight. Can you adjust the brightness too?

For the 5090 x4 15 inch bars are perfect, and cost me about £67. 2 along the top and one down each side.

Plus I use the swivel stand and the lights from these bars also coats the wall underneath the screen, so no real need for lights along the bottom. Brightness should be able to be adjusted, but I honestly can't remember. The LEDs in teh tubes are fairly directional so you can angle them to point more at teh wall or further out to bath the wall/ceiling in more/less light.

Just seen all your others questions, yikes :D PC mode to advance when watching 24fps footage like blu's, and off for everything else.

Very nice Ad, Ive got my LX6090 whacked up on the wall with side speakers.

/Jealous :(:D

Watched of Grand Prix HD-dvd last night. Sounded great and looked out of this world for such an old film.

Also managed to acquire a load of new blu rays for £8 each over the last few days of frantic searching; Eagle Eye, Tropic Thunder, Waltz with Bashir, Valley of Ellah, Quantum of Solace, Body of Lies, World is not Enough, Underworld 3, Enemy of the state, Incredible Hulk, and Reservoir dogs

:D

Quantum of Solace looks really nice doesn't it:cool:, from your opening post that picture of star ship troopers looks amazing I'll have to give that a watch at some point. If you want to show off all the different levels of darkness I recommend avp2 on blu ray, trust me it looks amazing!

Ye, starship troopers is a must, if only for the sheer quality and badassness (what a word) of it. The jump in PQ is also breathtaking and is one of my must use demo discs.

Watched a bit of QoS last night, but AVP2 does look great, watched some of it on Sky HD. It is a bit too dark though, and a pretty dire film, but hey there was some mindless killing :D
