Firefox oddity

Anyone seen this or know the fix ... I have Firefox 3.0.10 running on OSX 10.5.7 and in general it works fine but I have one issue with it.

It won't give me suggestions in the spell check. I have the appropriate dictionary showing as installed and it underlines words which are spelt incorrectly so it must be using the dictionary but right click on the underlined word doesn't give any suggestions for correctly spelt words like it does on Windows?

If you go to Tools > Add-ons does it show the dictionary as installed ?
Did you download the US version or the UK ?

Yep and it's the UK one.

English / United Kingdom is also selected in the right click -> languages -> submenu when in a text input box.

Have you tried reinstalling it ?
In Preferences > advanced > general, is 'check spellng as I type' checked ?
Also, do you have an add-on similar to Menu editor, which can change things like that ?

I haven't tried reinstalling it ... I'll give that a go later.

"check spelling as I type" is checked and I see the red underlines when things are spelt incorrectly as I would expect but it just gives me no suggestions.

I don't have an addon like Menu Editor installed.

Well I've reinstalled the British English dictionary with no improvement
