Alonso's exactly the same. Given time and space he's world class but close him down or ask him to do the dirty work and he looks half the player. Thankfully with Mascherano alongside him he doesn't have to worry about that side of the game.

Maybe in previous seasons but not this season. Imo this season has been far more impressive than even his first season simply down the fact that teams have been targeting him and putting him under pressure, yet he's still be top class.

Also some of his better performances this season were when Masch was away at the Olympics and he was alongside Gerrard.

Despite numerous signings Fergie still hasn't found a worthy replacement for either imo.

You're right on that but in fairness it isn't as if players the like of Keane or Scholes come along all that often and even if they do that doesn't mean that every team who wants someone like that can buy them.

What do you call a Man U fan with a bottle of champagne?

A waiter. :p

That was used in the SPL thread a few days ago now and it was old even then. :p

Haha great stuff coming from a car TOON TOON fan. I don't think there is a joke any bigger than Newcastle at this present time. However this one made me lol

Steven Gerrard has accused the FA of bias today. He said it's not on that Giggs is allowed a shirt with the number of Premierships he has won. The FA Have stood firm and told him ZERO is not a viable number.

What can i say? as a Man U fa..gutted. what dissapointed me most was the performance and players.

Carrick... what a terrible terrible performance.
O'Shea... he really is a rubbish player all round and certaily never came close to marking a man all match

Rio.. pains me to say it, but where was he? oh yea getting turned inside and out.

Park...why play Park on one wing and rooney on another with just Ronaldo up front?!

we have 60millions, well 90 millions worth of strikers, (tevez, Berba, Rooney) yet we elect to play out best runner of the ball up front on his own?! Park on one wing?! he's a terrible winger, and rooney on the other?

im not being funny but my football manager 2009tm tactics are not that inept.

has our team of "stars" massively overachieved the last 2 seasons? YES

what can we do to sort it? CUT THE CHAFF. Oshea, Carrick, Park, all have to go.

I'm getting pretty fed up of people saying 'so and so shouldn't have played'

Who would people have liked to see? There was nothing wrong with the lineup, just lots of people underperformed. I'd love to see who people would have rather seen playing instead of O'Shea, Park, Giggs and all these others. Even the subs were pretty rubbish. Tevez did sweet FA, Scholes I only saw that terrible tackle and Berbatov was on too late.

rubbish.

as soon as scholes came on and he had his first touch and pass, you could clearly see the gulf between him and carrick in terms of class. I.e Scholes has some and Carrick has zero.

and i am NOT a scholes fan..

tevez did nothing? damn he pretty much did twice the distance running than the rest of the team and he was only on for half the time!

O'Shea, Park, Giggs

Rooney and tevez/berba up front..

ronaldo, anderson, carrick(Scholes) giggs?nani?

giggs was so anonymous first half i didnt even realise he was playiung, carrick the same except i just noted all the mistakes he made...

also how can you go and play Barca without a plan to stop Messi and deal with Iniesta? we did NOTHING to stop them, we let them do what they liked all match with disasterous consequences.

A Manchester United fan killed four people in Nigeria when he drove into Barcelona supporters after his team lost the Champions League final, police have said.

A minibus rammed into a crowd, in the town of Ogbo, that was celebrating Barca's victory after the Wednesday night match.

A further 10 people were injured and the driver was arrested, a police spokeswoman said.

"The driver had passed the crowd then made a U-turn and ran into them," she added.

Barcelona beat Manchester United 2-0 in what was hailed as a "dream final" between two of Europe's best clubs.

Both teams have large fan bases in Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation.

Earlier this month, an Arsenal fan in Africa hanged himself when his team lost 3-1 to United in the Champions League Semi Final.

The body of Suleiman Alphonso Omondi, a 29-year-old Kenyan from Nairobi, was found at his home just hours after his heroes slumped out of the competition.

Police confirmed football-mad Mr Omondi was wearing his Arsenal shirt when he took his own life.

In Kenya, English clubs enjoy a passionate following among the locals.

European games, in particular the UEFA Champions League, attract more attention than national and continental fixtures.

To stop Messi, Henry, Eto'o you have to stop Iniesta and Xavi simple as that. Keep the ball away from them. There is no complicated answer to this problem. As I said last night and will say again today, Barca do the very basics of football with ruthless efficiency. Pass - Move - Create Space. with that they hold possession.

@ NIckg I think you are being a bit harsh on Carrick. I grant you he was way off the pace last night but he has been a pretty consistent performer for us this year.

he hasnt been terrible as seasons go, but after his first half performance id say time to bring scholes on at half time for him and tell Anderson to boss iniesta like a fabrigas situation.

O'Shea just looked like a lump completely out of place at right back.

THe ROnaldo upfront is what i call a "cheap" tactic that worked against arsenal. but to squander literally our whole strike force as i said like 90millions worth seems...futile excerise really..

When they scored and from our kick off we kicked it straight out for their corner, i knew we had lost there and then.

Carrick is fantastic against weaker teams, which to be fair is the majority of the premiership, where he has space to pin point his passing but put him against a tough midfield and it shows what an average player he is.

I don't think it's a question of stopping Xavi and Iniesta as no matter how tight you get to them, no matter how much pressure you put them under, if they are on their game then there is nothing you can do to stop them.

The only way to stop them is to not let them get the ball which means pressing higher up the pitch and putting the likes of Pique, Puyol and Toure under pressure. It's something you done for the first 10 minutes yesterday and it looked like only being 1 winner but after that it was just too easy for Puyol et al to carry it forward and lay it off to Xavi or Ineista and to make things worse your organisation in midfield and at the back made it even easier.

Even without putting them under pressure at the back they still made mistakes but too often there was just Ronaldo up top on his own and nothing he could do.

edit: Btw i've been told that Xavi and Ineista got their inspiration from this:

How is it that most of MU's starting 11 has become utterly **** after one game

They have still won the League, Carling Cup, World Club Cup, Semi's of the FA Cup, Final of the CL yet they are utterly crap because we lost one game :/

I'll stick with them for now I think, I've got a feeling it was one bad game.

G|mp I don't know how to break this to you but I don't think you're cut out to be a football fan, I'm surprised it has taken so long to reveal itself but your response is nowhere near reactionary enough. Perhaps consider croquet or something else more genteel.

I'm just astounded at how we lose one game (all be it a damn important one) and all of a sudden most of the team are utter ****.

I expect it from some on here but not most :/
