Seems that most will accept a Horst Von Saurma lap as a fair benchmark and it's the one that a lot have been waiting for to answer some of the questions raised over the 'Ring time for the GT-R.

Considering Porsche went public with the statement they could not shuffle the Jap pig round faster than 7:54, and considering the company it's keeping irregardless of price, this is pretty bloody quick to put it mildly.

Seems this is on a few forums now, still no official time until the mag is out so this could potentially be rubbish but here's how it looks compared to HvS's other times if correct:

Pagani Zonda F...7:33
Porsche 997 GT2....7.33
Koenigsegg CCR....7:34
Porsche 997 Turbo Ruf Rt 12....7:35

Ferrari 430 Scuderia....7.39
Techart GTstreet....7.39
Porsche 997 GT3....7:40
Pagani Zonda S....7:44
Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera....7.46 min
Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano....7.47 min

Porsche 997 Carrera S....7.50 min
Lamborghini Murciélago....7.50 min
BMW M3 CSL....7:50
Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4....7.52 min
Porsche 997 911 Turbo....7.54 min
Ferrari F 430....7.55 min
Ferrari Challenge Stradale....7.56 min
Audi R8....8:04
BMW M3 E92....8:05
Porsche Cayman S....8:10
Mercedes SL 55 AMG....8:12
BMW M5 E60....8:13
Audi RS6....8:20
BMW M3 E46....8:22

BMW Z4 Coupé 3.0si....8:32
Honda Civic Type-R....8:47

Makes no difference to me, nice to have a general idea though if its correct. I'm off to read the old "Nissan Cheat / Porsche" thread now for breakfast entertainment.

The whole Nissan v Porsche thing really is irrelevant to me because a) Im never going to put a Ring lap time in like that, and b) in the forseeable future, I am unlikely to own one.

EDIT - Fett you have 2 cars on that list! :D Damn you.

Not bad at all.

I'm quite surprised how quick the M3 CSL is on that list too. Seriously awesome car.

That is more like it, I always believed the car would be quick and by god it is. You only had to look at other track times it has done at other places to see that. Nissan's 'optimised' car, a word they have started to use of late I believe, simply seems to quick but that time I think 'feels' about right. Be interesting to see how quick he gets the GT3 MK2 round in, that is quite a bit quicker around a track than the Mk1 with more power and 3 times the downforce.

Never an exact science this.

Great lap by the GT-R, that. Must have been some fairly epic driving by HvS as well!

I'd still rather have the Corvette though :p

I'd genuinely like to know which is the faster car out of the GT2 and the GTR. Surely to get a decent GT2 lap time you'd need to be an insanely good driver where as the GTR has all the gizmos and gadgets to aid the driver. Perhaps I'm completely wrong?

whats with the carrera 997 S time ?

faster than a 997 911 turbo, faster than a ferrari 430, gallardo LP560 and 360 CS ??

I noticed that too, aero kit along with being the newer 380hp and the new gearbox and other bits and that new spiffy stability managment maybe, still dont see how it could beat the power of the above cars though.

Thats a seriously quick time for the GT-R...i read somewhere that it did a pretty fast lap around the Ring..faster than one of the Porsche 911's...nice to see the Ruf 911 and the 997 GT2 still holding onto their respective places.

Is the 997 GT2 that much faster than the 997 GT3??..i would have thought the GT3 would have been the more quicker car...

EDIT: Yep looking at the official specs the 997 GT2 is indeed a much quicker and powerful car than the GT3...so whats the difference between the 2 other than power??..weight??

I thinks it's pretty irrevelant to everybody but a select few that can push any of those cars to those times, would be a bit of a mistake to buy any car because of it's Ring time. Still interesting though.

hmmm and porsche said they couldnt get the gtr close to the gt2 time

One of the comments made by HvS (if this is all true) is that the GT-R had a few seconds left in it, so if that's the case, it does make you wonder. I suppose to be fair to Porsche, perhaps their dev driver couldn't get on with it or only did a few laps. If thats the case, perhaps keeping quiet would have been a better idea, does seem odd though that a few months ago Porsche pulled the same thing with Ferrari.

I think 7:38 was the original claim by Nissan and that itself got a lot of stick and disbelief (not by you) so if this is a real Supertest time, should answer some of questions regarding the validity of the times.

Course, this opens up a new discussion of how they currently can whip the UK spec model around in 7:27...

I'm pretty sure the 997 GT3 time is the Mk 2, that time is from the June 09 edition with the GT3 having 435PS. The other 997 GT3 time is dated March 07 at 415PS...7:48.

You must have been having one seriously **** day when you posted in the previous thread regarding this issue squire :D

shouldn't there be a Viper fairly high on that list too?

All the times I listed are HvS Sport Auto times, so the Viper isn't there.

PDK, PASM and Cups. I don't thinks it's an anomoly, the box is supposed to be that good, helps to explain some of the GT-R's time as well.

AWD vs RWD is the main one I would have thought.
