Stop............. Kuro time

I know avp2 was pants lol but the images were very impressive in imo. Try Band of brothers on blu ray thats a winner and the matrix trilogy on blu ray.

I got myself a 5090H a couple of weeks back...I'd be interested to hear what other Blu-Rays you guys would recommend for sheer picture quality.

I've just added Starship Troopers to my list :D

Ratatouille is an absolute must for those that haven't seen it, the water scene at the beginning is jaw dropping! Hmmmm...must watch the Spiderman trilogy again as well!

I have to many Blu rays to list lol, so heres a good selection. not all are great films storyline wise but image wise I feel stands out from the crowd on Blu ray on our Pioneers imo!

The dark knight
Batman begins
Band of brothers
The matrix trilogy
Avp1 & 2
Cars
Tears of the sun
The Incredible hulk
Iron man
Blood diamond
Pans Labyrinth
Gangs of New York
Wall E
Pearl harbor
300
Quantum of solace
Ratatouille

Thats all the ones that spring to mind personally that stand out from the crowd, there are some really nicely cleaned up films like Goodfellas, Full metal jacket, Casino, A clock work orange, One flew over coo coos nest, Rambo 1,2,3.

I still find myself ducking when bullets whizz buy. Awesome boxset.

Thebigcheese: Tanks list is great, but one film you MUST get on Blu is 'The Fall'. A beautiful, clever and satisfying film that even SWMBO will enjoy, and it is also the most visually stunning picture I have seen in a long time.

Must buy for all !

Many thanks for the recommendations :D

Some of the films on that list, stunning as they may be I don't think I could bring myself to watch...Pearl Harbour was about as awful as they come...I only managed about 20 minutes of it on DVD lol.

I have Band of Brothers on DVD...I'll have to rent the Blu-Ray versions and see what I think, I didn't have the 5090H or a 5.1 setup the last time I watched it lol.

Tears of the Sun is quite an old film isn't it? I haven't seen it so I'll be eagerly adding that to my list :D

I have the Matrix trilogy on HD-DVD, does anyone know if there is any picture difference between that and Blu-ray?

-Ad-, many thanks for recommending The Fall, the trailer for that looks amazing, that's definitely added!

Disappointing to see that Solaris (2002 version) hasn't been released. I remember seeing that at the cinema and there was a shot near the start of rain falling on a window, with an orange glow to it...so simple but amazing at the same time.

Stick with the matrix set on hd-dvd, no point in buying blu even if it is 1% better. The original film uses the better versionfrom the special edition anyway, so is as good as it'l look anyway.

Tears of the sun isn't that old at 2003 :p Looks great on Blu and a good (but harsh) war film in the african jungle.

Pearl harbour = crap  It's a stunning film.........

If you only watch the attack scene on the harbour then turn it off :D

Tears of the sun isn't that old at 2003
lol whoops, I was getting mixed up with this:

Also supposed to be a very good film...I'll get TEARS of the Sun added to my list! ;)

The thing that sticks out in my mind with Pearl Harbour is at the beginning when he says "Please Ma'am, please don't take my wings"...it's at that point that I almost threw something at the TV and turned it off, cursing the writers, shocking film lol.

Ooh ooh ooh, Sin City, that's just come out on Blu-Ray and looks stunning, the colours are unbelievable! :D

Very nice Ad, Ive got my LX6090 whacked up on the wall with side speakers.

Good isn't it :D Now get it ISF calibrated..

*tips hat to fellow 6090-wallmount owner*

I'll take some pictures of my Blu-Ray collection, I pretty much use the internet to find the good quality transfer titles, then buy them.

I know its a bit off topic but its to do with Pioneer so bear with me and would appreciate any advice.

Im looking at getting a plasma for my living room and i know Pioneers are superb...my unlce has a 50 inch plasma pioneer kuro and everytime im round his im just constantly and utterly amazed at how bloody good the picture is.

Unfortunately my living room isnt that big so a 50 incher would be a bit overkill...so im looking at a 42" pioneer plasma kuro screen...how good are these compared to the other 42" plasmas in that screen size ie compared to other brands like Sammys and Panasonics??. Is it worth getting the pioneer plasma at that size or are the other brands better??.

Appreciate any help or advice you can give.

The 42" screens are no longer made so if you can find one, grab it immediately - they're fantastic. 2009 models from other manufacturers are probably only just catching up :p

You can only get the 9th Gen Pioneers in either the 50" or 60" unless you're looking at some older generations in which case you'd be better off going with a Panasonic. What size room are we talking about?

About 7 ft long and 5 ft wide i guess...havent measured the room.

Ive seen one at around £800ish a pioneer 42" plasma so am contemplating that.

My viewing distance is about 9', and I find that perfect for the 50", so I would think you would be fine with a 42" at 7'.

Your best bet is to have a look in some shops and see if you notice the picture breaking down at a distance.

Tips hat back:cool:, would love to get my mine ISF calibrated but thats £300 and not priority at the moment. I was worried about wall mounting so got a universal bracket that would take 140 kilo plasma and extra long bolts lol, I have already bolted up and down the stairs thinking its coming away from the wall but its safe I can do pull ups on it lol that bugger aint coming down touch wood.

Cheers mate, gonna go have a look at the pioneer 42" plasma tommorrow and see how that looks.

Other than the 9th gen Pioneers I've still not seen a set that compares to the 8th gen Pioneers. Only thing that would put me off would be lack of warrenty support.

I've got 5 years on my Pio from Pio, so I've love to see what they would do if anything went wrong with it.
