Are your local doctors this bad?

So I can completely sympathise and understand your frustration - it's ludicrous. They dont' seem to care about preventative medicine and by the time you have something all they do is prescribe antibiotics and tell you to go on your way.

Welcome to the NHS (I presume, if its private go somewhere your business is appreciated)

I don't often get ill, In fact I have no idea who my 'official' doctor is, but doesn't really matter as mum used to be GP and dad is a consultant :D. One time I tore a ligament or something in my thumb, went to A&E with dad and got specialist within 20 mins :D. Apart from that, when I get vaccinations the appointments have to be made a long time in advance, but as vaccinations aren't really urgent I don't mind. From having medics as parents you really get to hear how overworked, stressed they are, and how badly run the system is.

sometimes specialists are no better.

a few years ago my gp made a appointment for me to see a dermatologist as i was having some sort of allergic reaction on my hands. which id been to see my gp about a few times.

fast forward the day i actually went. i waited about a hour later than my appointment was due to finally see her and be told that it looks like a allergic reaction and to come back in 6 weeks. i was like no **** sherlock!

some of em are utter muppetts.

It took me 5 years of complaining of a constantly blocked nose to get a referral to an ENT and subsequent diagnosis of a deviated septum. I think I had 3 different doctors ignore the fact that no medication made a difference to my ability to breathe and it was seriously affecting my sleep. That means none of them noticed that my septum is bent badly enough to warrant surgery, and it's really obvious if you know what you're looking for :(.

It's just the state of the NHS unfortunately, it cannot cope with the sheer volume of cases.

I had an xray in March after waiting 3 weeks, this was due to previously having pneumonia twice, coughing up lots of blood and having chest problems....(me thinking the worst...cancer etc) but they couldnt fit me in as they were that busy.

Whats GHB?

As said above, GPs are not an emergency service, an appointment in the afternoon is perfectly acceptable, if you need treatment faster than that go to A&E.

The NHS is underfunded, understaffed and crippled by bureaurocracy, its never going to be perfect.

Often there is no instant cure and there is a waiting list for everything.

Starts at around 125ml for £25 or something, the more you buy the better value it is, and the government are looking at possibly making it a class C drug, so I would buy as much as possible while it's still legal.

Send me the link on msn please.

Yea. Unfortunately because it is FREE it is abused.

Everybody just needs to realize that the politicians are promising unrealistic expectations which are not possible in the current system.

The proliferation of "middle management" also hasnt helped the resource shortage.

I didn't get the chance to read through this entire thread, so bear with me if this problem's already answered. Will the private health care in UK provide better service than the ones NHS provide? As in, faster treatment etc

NHS is useless and the service the public gets for the money pumped into it is a scandal.

Dare to kick up a fuss or criticise you are told "nurses/doctors are so overworked" etc :o the NHS seems to do well at hiding poor service behind this mantra.
