After reading the call center thread, it got me curious who on this forum could win the title for working the worse possible job?

I'll get the ball rolling. I worked a few temp jobs during uni summers. These include a bin man, a tin can factory scooper and by far the worst, I worked in a dog biscuit factory. Now even forgetting the unbearable summer heat combined with a smell worse then dog **** itself, this job got far worse. From 9-5 I stood by a one manned convey belt and simply took the biscuits off the belt onto a tray, that's it, words cant express how mind numbingly repetitive it was, how I escaped with my sanity intact I’ll never know.

Can anyone top that ?

When I was 16 I worked on a pig farm for 2 years. My main duty was to clean everywhere the pigs had been with a powerwasher. Now imagine getting towards a corner, which is covered in pig poo and trying to clean it with a power washer running from a tractor. Splash back... mouth.... urgh...

Permanantly stunk of poo even after showering 3+ times. It gets into your skin, and when you sweat it seeps back out. Yummy...

pin boning/de-heading fish for a summer... great, that said the banter between the workers was great.

I was only 17, and started at five in the morning previous to that job i was unaware that people got up at that time, never mind were at work singing and shouting at each other... ah those were the days

Grease trap cleaning for 45mins when i was physicaly sick, i quit...

Done lots of jobs though, from cleaning down wood and putting into racks, to carrying white goods for EXCEL on 12 hour nights to cleaning buses for GMT.

All in all, if you have good people on the shift, and it doesnt make you physically ill, then its ok.

Did a stint at BARRS, Irn Brew makers, watching cans go past, i remeber starting the shift, then 4 hours later being woken up for tea break... the cans flashing past with the industrial lights above just hypnotises you lol..

Worst one I've had is telesales for Staybrite Windows...probably not the worst on here, but getting told to **** off a hundred times a day isn't particularly fun either!

I worked one day as a removal man (helping people move homes) and the pig sty's people seemed to live in were horrendous. I almost threw up carrying one couples oven unit as it hadn't ever been cleaned as far as I could tell :(

Quit at the end of the day.

Much preferred working in the frozen section of Sainsbury's and even the telephone tech support for Lloyds/Fujitsu.

Worst job?
Working for virgin ntl, technical support call centre.
being yelled at for 9 hours straight by customers whos fault often lied with bt or them selfs, then having to plead to get lunch breaks.
secound worst, Plant mechanic for undisclosed manufacturer.
Work 12 hours a day, have to eat lunch whilst working due to complete understaffed.
get covered in foul smelling gunk that builds up, or worse getting sprayed in the face with sufuric acid in haz mat suits when repairin the machinery.
Only good thing is the pay.

Kitchen porter at 16, working midday-close in stifling heat over the summer, not allowed to open the door as the customers complained the breeze was too cold and I got paid a pittance (Y).

I work at the Jobcentre, frequently verbally abused because someone didn't get their giro. Knowing someone is lying but because you have no evidence you have to pay them whilst you are struggline to live on their paltry wages for the lower end workers, e.g the ones who actually have to put up with the customers. Not being able to pay someone who has a terminal illness because they haven't filled in this and that form, that also includes having several family members on the phone begging you to help their relative.

Not the worst job physically but quite mentally draining.

working in the sandwidch factory in the kitchen making up mixes working in -20 conditions opening cans of tuna(tuna tuna tuna boy )

slicing eggs too mass quantitys 10L tubs at a time

weighing salmon into 60g balls i was the only person who had the wits too stick on 900g of salmon then take away 60 each time, because of this i was the most efficent worker and this became part of my daily routine ,

mixing frozen prawns with mayonaise first thing in the morning ewwww its like being in a snowball fight with no gloves ,

gettin earache from some old git was treated like a slave any time i looked at my boss i had a burning hatred for him deep in my soul lol ,

old git went mad at me beacause i wasnt filling up the tomato slicing machine quick enouigh ...... he got a washing basket type thing full of tomatoes put them in the slicer there was nothing too catch them and went crazy at me because of it luckily i was sacked from this position after goin awol because i didnt get time off for a music festival

, i then got a job working for the bank right in the next building too where i worked, the smell in that place was horrendous my freind got a job the same day as me and walked out that day coz he couldent hack the tuna smell , i lasted around 5 months

, hygeine standards werent up too much either loads of smokers coughin there lungs out on the production lines , boss's using out of date food for the mixes, i was solely responsible for the fillings of all the starbucks mixes , all in all some of the boys on the job were a laugh and we used too do stupid things like swap labels on the mixes put high fat cheese in the low fat mixes have food fights an go home early coz i was soo damm quick at chopping ,

i was without a doubt the hardest worker in that kitchen and the boss called me his slave on 2 occasions i met him one day out on the town and gave him a piece of my mind slice yer own tomatoes ya old git
