ok guys i have a 4870 512 atm , and i am now gaming at 1900x1200 i have a cross fire enabled mobo , what should i get in the way of an upgrade ? thanks i want to keep to ati if possible as i have the option of crossfire if it is worth it ?

At that res, the 512MB ram might start to hold you back, so I'd probably get rid of that 4870 and decide on a budget for the upgrade. There's quite a few nice Nvidia and ATI cards at different price points, so we need to know how much you want to spend :)

well under certain games with aa on it does struggle , i was thinking of a 4890 i gb but is it worth it when i could get 2 x 1gb 4870 or 1 4870x2 ?

be warned those cards you mentioned do suffer from poor power circuitry on them. you may want to reconsider your options.

This would suggest that just adding another 512mb card would be fine, its only ABOVE 1920x1200 where you need to worry about RAM

Testing done by techreport, and whilst this is only 1 game, they ran a spectrum of games and they all showed same kinda results

the review is here but in the following games then yeah L4D (actually beats 285SLI ???) COD:WaW, FA3, Crysis Warhead its behind the 295. Its strange how the games optimise cos the 512mb xfired 4870s beat the xfired 1gig's a few times too
