UKIP a serious alternative?

As (dare I say it) good as those look, they smell of promises that they cant back up because they know they will never have to. Unless something major happens our government will only be Labour or Conservative for the foreseeable future. Even if another party got into Number 10, they wouldn't know what to do and we would probably be in a worse state.

Parties like this will never be elected so I don't waste my time thinking about them. We have a two party system in the UK.

wasn't the Human Rights Act part of Euro law and in effect destroyed some of our own English commons laws as it has a higher precedent. In which case it would be np there are other laws there to protect the indivudual. happy to be corrected :D

I bet you are a barrel of laughs down the pub with that attitude :D

I'd say, at the moment, we are either a one party (blue) or three party system. Last poll I saw put labour over 25 points behind iirc, which much put the lib dems in the mix?

Some good sounding ideas. Few things worry me; scrapping the human rights act is a bit extreme, alternatives to nuclear would be preferable (what happened to that Thames barrier idea?) and I'm not sure what this NHS insurance fund is about? Otherwise, I like what I see.

However, I won't vote for them as they are too unlikely to win and I'd like to get rid of labour :D

At least we are no longer the sick man of europe, as we were comparitively through the 70s and 80s. UKIP are ridiculous.

Not anymore. Labour is polling less than Lib Dems, UKIP and Tories.

I think we could do without all this posturing and punching above our weight and go back to making a great country again.

People forget that during the 70s and 80s we were a laughing stock. Too many with rose tinted glasses look on those times a bit too favourably...

They're getting my vote. At least they have a Manifesto, which is more than can be said for the other major parties, who just propose to do nothing.

Of course you'll get the diehard Labour supporters denouncing their plans as "unworkable" - but compared to what? Taxing the country to death to keep some greedy banks going? No thanks.

All good bar the one area. That of nuclear plants. Fine by me but plutonium is hellish difficult and expensive to bury, and bury it in the end of the plants lifecycle we would have to do. Unless they meant fusion, I'm not a scientist so I'll plead merry ignorance a bit on that.

Shelving the windfarms is a bad iea and doesn't appear to be justified in that piece as a concept at all. It's a pity really because the rest of it was all quite attractive. I would probably pick them over any of the other parties at the moment just on principle alone.

People seem to be confused. This is the European elections not a general election.

Laughing stock to who? Since then our industry has gone to hell, everything has been sold.

I really wish they didnt say "scrap the human rights act" would have much preffered a "reform on the human rights act".

And as stated, 1 nuclear plant > 20 coal plants and a lot cleaner. So peoples arguments go out the door on that one.

on a side note, how would they bring back the industry if they forcing companies to employ here? it was that very notion that made them leave in the first place. a trade free relationship with other countries would just let them go for cheaper labour
