Hi Guys,

My car is finally getting replaced :D ( 98 Corsa 1.4). Im planning on getting a VW Scirocco. Basically this is the first car that I will have any input on buying and I want to make sure I dont miss a trick. In the past I know weve gotten discounts for buying cars cash (not actual notes...but not finance if you see what I mean). Given my car is going to go on the scrappage scheme and get me 2000 off what sort of discount from VW themselves do you think I should be trying to get them to give me?

This may seem a bit stupid, but this is a lot of money and given the current climate I just want to make sure im getting the best deal and I have no experience what-so-ever :).

Thanks in advance guys.

Scirocco R I hope! Why don't you spec yourself up on a VW website with all the extras you want. Post the price here so you'll be in a better position? :)

OK well its not the R since thats a bit much, I suspect I wouldnt be able to afford the insurance anyhow, im hoping for a black GT 2.0L TSI with cruise control and mats + flaps total: £22,189...then £2000 off...£20,189. So how much off that for cash and the fact im giving them my money in the currently shabby economic climate :).

Will you actually use cruise control after the novelty has worn off? I don't see the Scirocco being designed such that the machine controls the journey, but rather, the driver always being in control of the machine. I'd personally leave it out but each to their own.

I know what you mean, but I find it useful for the dreaded average speed cameras I always seem to drive through, I spend a lot of time in my car and when I cant be arsed to hoon its nice to have.

Not much once you consider the £2000 for scrapage im getting on my current car, which you cant get on a used model, theyre about £19000 second hand atm. Also not the colour I want or the same spec either so I would need to retro-fit the cruise control and mats + flaps.

Have you considered the second hand car market before taking the plunge to buy new? Could a used Scirocco be bought for cheaper? :)

this, i wanted a focus ST which costs around £20k new, got one that was a year old with 5k on the clock for £12k. That was the first time I had not bought new and I wont be paying full whack again

Thats a hell of a lot of money to spend on your first real car, can't help but think you'll regret it after a few years of paying the finance off

I've got a 2.0GT DSG.
You'll struggle to get too much off. I'd bin the flaps. They look rubbish and you should get the mats thrown in. Get the parking sensors. They're almost a must. Make sure they're the factory fit and not the dealer ones.

I got the parking sensors, mats and a reasonable trade in when I ordered back in October. Discounts seem to vary a lot. Some people claim 10%, others seem to get about £300-400 and that's yer lot. Don't forget that the dealer is putting half the money in to that scrappage trade in so that will be some of your bargaining power gone I suspect.

Ok thanks Kevin, ive not actually seen one with flaps, but if they look awful I guess theyres not a huge amount of point. I was debating about the parking sensors, you cant see a huge amount out of the back to be fair.

Thanks again.

Hmmm thanks again kevin, those flaps do look a bit of a shambles, dont know why theyve made them to stick out so far, but I like mud flaps, they protect the car a decent bit. I will think on that. Is there any way to adjust the parking sensor? that is way too much space at the back for my liking. White is a good colour too.

No the screen goes red and you get a constant tone at 30cm. I've never gone further to find out if it goes more mental :)

We've got a couple of Leicester members on the site. Never know, they might be up for giving you a spin.

Ah thats most kind of you to say, I think ill wait for my test drive and see how it does there first though. If I can reverse it into my garage without hitting anything everything else is easy street :).
