diesel vs petrol power

As i was saying, A remapped hdi 2.0 110 lump at an easy achievable 155bhp (for sub £200) would beat a gti 6

Here we go again.

No, a 2.0 diesel peugeot would not beat a GTi-6 unless the GTI-6 driver wasn't allowed to use his gearbox. Sorry.

So, you buy a 206 2.0hdi 110bhp, for £2000 you remap it, (i did my vehicle myself for £140) and it beats all manner of 180bhp cars ;)

thus making this a very viable swap for a 205 project car, like it or not

agreed, diesel cars feel a lot quicker than they are due to the way the power is delivered. Go out with a vbox or similar, then come back and show us that your car could beat a gti-6.

And who has got £2000 to sepnd on that sort of engine, for that amount of money you could see well over 200bhp on the gti-6 engine. Then pound for pound who would win.

He's driven thousands of cars. Howard, you are the clueless one

:p

Diesels only feel quick because of the "shove" the extra torque gives you. It's all about BHP, that's what makes you go fast :D

It's about the drive characteristic. I've driven a 3.0 v6 TDI audi A6 with a remap, and boy did it fly. However did I like it? No. Great for a motorway cruiser, as a hot hatch? Crap. It completely defeats the point of the hot hatch. Screaming 4 pot 16v petrol is far far more fun to drive and furthermore the engine is lighter ergo doesn't unbalance the car either. Also it's more rewarding, sounds nicer, and offers a smoother more useable power delivery.

I'm not denying modern diesels offer good performance, but it's the power delivery, and driving style that just doesn't appeal at all. It does NOT make a hot hatch. It makes a quick family car, it makes a fantastic cruiser - it is world apart from being a sensible engine to use in something like an old 205 GTi.
