diesel vs petrol power

This thread amuses me greatly, having browsed and posted on the GTi-6 forum for a fair while.. the general concensus is that a properly tuned 2.0 HDi 306 will give the '6 (standard) a good run for its money (up to license redeeming speeds)

Obviously a supercharged '6 would urinate all over the HDis bonnet.

Those of you at the last RR saw my 2.0 HDi 306 hit 129.something bhp with 200.5 ft/lb torque, thats with a mild 120-124 remap and an aftermarket custom intercooler (check the thread I made.. CLICK ME)

If I uprate the clutch and flash another map onto the car (then wind the boost up a bit) I can easily hit 155bhp with 260 ft/lb torque, tell me that isn't going to be fun??

Personally I prefer the Diesel engine as it gives fair power for fair fuel usage, all that torque low down is great fun!

Revvy petrol engines are sure fun to, but you don't see us diesel owners constantly slagging off your engines..

Petrol v Diesel comparison.

All those torques and the diesel still loses. Straight line speed is about bhp and weight and very little else. Petrol will be quicker around a track too. The only reason to chose the TDI is for the MPG factor.

SEAT Leon Hatchback (00-05) 1.8 20V T FR 5d

MPG 33
0-60 mph 7.5 s (pretty sure my manual quotes this as 7.2)
Power Output 177 bhp
Valves 20
Torque 235 Nm 173 lb-ft
Top Speed 142 mph
Weight 1308 kg

SEAT Leon Hatchback (00-05) 1.9 TDi FR (150ps) 5d

MPG 52
0-60 mph 8.6 s
Power Output 147 bhp
Valves 8
Torque 320 Nm 236 lb-ft
Top Speed 134 mph
Weight 1333 kg

Mr Freefaller has kindly cleaned that thread up :) but yeah the thread started out the opposite way.

No offence taken but your pug sounds like a tractor.

*runs and hides*

What facts? All you've given me is a load of oil burning propaganda. I'll happily shut up with you provide me with evidence that a 200bhp diesel will 'destroy' a 200bhp petrol.

I am trying to find them, its well known tho i thought, and pretty much obvious as the diesel will have the same bhp and shed loads more torque

How much of this torque is put down to the road compared with the petrol?

How come my Dads car is slower than mine even though it has 410nm of torque compared to my 300nm?

Did you hear my car run?

I know it sounds like a tractor! but guess what I drive most days for a living ;)

which is exactly what stinka has been doing.

yh, but everyone knows that tuning a n/a engine like the gti-6 lump is very costly, i mean you have to spend severall grand to get over 200bhp, probably cams. headwork. bottom end, modified inlets, even throttlebodies

turbo tuning is always many times cheaper

Well you were the one on about throwing £2k at a diesel lump!

For that on a gti-6 you could get some nice throttle bodies, cams, standalone management and a remap.
