*** The Official Football Manager 2009 Thread ***

My season with United, compared to United's actual season has been uncanny.

I won the Community Shield on penalties (United wonit on pens)
I won the World Club Cup (so did United)
I won the Carling Cup (United won)
I dropped out of the FA Cup (United lost out to Everton)
I won the Premiership (United won the premiership)

I managed to get Foster to around 900+ minutes without conceding, not as much as VDS in real life but damn close.

I'm playing Barcalona in the final of the Champions League on 27th May...

Wooo! :D

Beat Barca in the final 4:3

Messi 9mins (0:1)
Carrick 60mins (1:1)
Eto'o 70mins (1:2)
Rooney 74mins (2:2)
Eto'o 79mins (2:3)
Carrick 90mins (3:3)
Miguel Veloso 90+3mins (4:3)

All of the goals bar Rooney's header and Carrick's first were absolute screamers. Messi belted one from the corner of the box into the opposite corner. Eto'o hit a 30 yarder and his second was a route one ball to him and he beat my entire defence.

Carrick scored from 25 yards and I brough on Veloso just incase I got a free kick, switched him to my kick taker instead of Ronaldo and Miguel Veloso banged a 25+ yarder home :D :D :D

Awesome stuff :D

Decided to start again as Blackburn after my 6 seasons with AC Milan produced nothing but trophies.

Trying to play a formation that is dependant on wingers and a long striker and although its working, Blackburns starting strikers don't seem fantasticly suited to the role. I'm looking for a striker who is al all round type of player, someone similar to Didier Drogba with pace, physical presence and consistency within performances.

I've been looking at Pavel Pogrebnyak (Zenit) after reading about on The Dugout however language will likely be a problem with the move. Anyone got any suggestions? I've got around 5million to spend.

I actually had a look at Baptista, but as an AMC on my game, he would require that extra bit of positional training. Man City ended up hijacking my bid for Pogrebnyak so I ended up signing Milevskyi from Dinamo Kiev. 3 goals in 2 games so far. He and Diouf are working really well together.

Just got to sort out the midfield now. The defense are stopping them getting in the area, but teams are getting far too many long range efforts on target.

I've wanted to have Milevskyi for ages but have always gone for someone that I know is good. His stats look ace and I really must try him at some point.

lorik cana is a class dmc. Alex song has good potential sometimes, but it varies as it's random.

Check Arturo Vidal for defence.

I've realised that on this game, at least on 08. Stats mean nothing, absolutely nothing. It matters more what your assistant says about him than what stats he has.

Eg: I have Aguero with 19/19 pace/acceleration. He was running after a ball, but was out paced by somebody with 12/13. WTF?! He was on like 90% condition with superb morale.

Other times I have players with most of their stats above 15 (I have van persie) who don't actually play that well, and yet I have players with pretty bad stats (an ageing Benayoun, who are fantastic)

Well I've played two seasons with Arsenal now.

Season One:
Adebayor was straight out. £23m to Manchester City. In came Balotelli for £18m, Saivet, Sturridge, Santon, and a few other young players.

Season didn't start too well but eventually sorted out a settled tactic and pushed up the league. It was very similar to Arsenal's real season in actual fact, with us chasing Aston Villa to secure the final Champions League spot. In the end we did it with about two games to spare. Got knocked out of the FA Cup and League Cup in the mid-late rounds and was knocked out of the Champions League by Inter in the 2nd round. Not a great season, but it was something to work off.

Season Two:
Realised I had mainly been struggling in central midfield. I needed someone to partner Fabregas. I'd tried desperately to get Veloso but Sporting just wouldn't sell him for anything less than £20m. I'd had my eye on Camacho, and managed to snap him up for £17m. What a great signing he proved to be. Also managed to sign Busquets on a free transfer from Barcelona and Asenjo.

The season started terrible, losing to Blackburn away and Chelsea at home without even scoring a goal. I eventually picked up though and found myself on the verge of a title challenge with about 15 games to go. However Chelsea just romped on home to take the league by about 10 points. At the end of the season I'd managed to finish in 3rd, pushing Manchester United into 4th on the last day of the season. The FA Cup was less than impressive, as was the league cup. However the fans were extremely satisfied in Europe.

I knocked out Lyon in the 2nd round, Bayern Munich in the quarter finals with a 3-0 away win in the first leg one of my best performances of the season. Manchester United were disposed of in the semis, drawing 2-2 away before an early Eduardo goal set us on our way to a 4-0 home win in the 2nd leg.

Real Madrid were waiting for us in the final. We started brightly, creating 3 clear cut chances in the first 5 minutes. However Real hit us on the break and got an early goal, Barcelona vs Man United style, to take the lead on 9 minutes. We plugged away first half but just couldn't break through. Second half started the same with Real defending desperately, before a superb strike by Camacho found the top corner off the under side of the crossbar to put us level. But we couldn't find a winner in normal time. It wasn't until the 105th minute when Balotelli smashed home a diving header. Real were beaten. They had no answer to anything, and in the 120th minute Camacho curled home a beautiful effort from the edge of the box to secure victory. Completely unexpected!

So now its the summer and time to improve the squad. I'm thinking of bringing in a forward to play alongside Vela. Van Persie wanted to leave all season having finished my top scorer in the first season, but ended up getting injured every time he was put in the side. Eduardo had a superb season but I'm not always convinced of him. The role he is playing is a more creative role, dropping deep a lot to receive the ball.

Will have to see who wants to join the new European Champions! :D My first FM 2009 trophy :)

How do I go about finding good regens now?

I'm in 2014 and have managed to achieve an Everton like status with Newcastle, regular Europa with a few Champ League forays

Need to have a lucky season to push into the top 2-3

Annoying that Man City are they, because if you arn't a top club, then you have to better the top 4, plus City, then theres your team, thats 6 teams for 4 C League places

In my first serious game with a lower league team (QPR).

Its amazing how many people want to leave....Thiago Neves, Llana, Renan, Smiljanic. This is all fair and well but why kick up a fuss if no-one has even put a bid in for them?

Thiago Neves is a right tail, I always sign him as he just scores from anywhere, great winger

He always complains that he wants to leave, even though no one wants him

Was told last night that if you type 'faceinthegame' into the search box it'll give you a list of all the regens the game has made.

Perhaps to try and tempt other clubs into making a move for them now they know the player wants to leave?
