AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 550 3.10GHz Black Edition

Would be freaking awesome if you get one that became a X4 955, saving around £100. The 720 became a 940 i think so it was good to get an extra core but not nearly as good as this.

so which motherboards with ACC allows you to unlock these then?

ive got a dfi 790FXB-M2RSH but apparently that doesnt unlock them.

"A product manager from Biostar says that any board with an SB750 southbridge can technically achieve the unlock. ASRock confirms the same, and gave us its test data with a number of CPUs indicating a fairly even split between chips that will unlock and run stably, chips that will unlock but aren’t stable, and chips that won’t unlock at all. ive heard these do :

Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 rev 2.0 £58.11 ish
Gigabyte GA-M720-US3 (jes, nForce ulocking PhII well as SB750 ) £50 ish
Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P (AM3 board with DDR3 DIMM Slots)

Things took a turn for the better when we switched to the triple core Phenom II X3 720 as the Gigabyte has a trick up its sleeve. In the BIOS you can use a hidden option Ctrl-F1 to enter Advanced Chipset Features and then you can enable Nvidia Core Calibration and turn on the fourth core in this triple core processor. Gigabyte is somewhat coy about this feature as Ctrl-F1 isn't mentioned on the POST screen and neither does it appear in the manual. We would have been none the wiser if we hadn't been shown a Gigabyte marketing presentation that explained how to unleash the fourth core.

ive gone for a 550, will see tomorrow if my mobo can unlock the extra cores.

apparently the first batch out , the cores work ok.

we shall see
