Hi All

Ok time to contribute something to OcUK forums !

Just got a Dell 2709 27" screen. Got my own office at work and so thought that its time to improve my working environment.

Work give us dell machines, and the brand new Dell Optiplex I was given has a DisplayPort built in, as well as the VGA port. The graphics display is an Intel GMA integated adaptor - poor for games, but fine for desktop stuff and nice and sharp. I already had a Dell 1908 19"er, so this suites my setup nicely from an aesthetics point of view.

First impressions - huge box, huge screen, but to be expected ! All the cables in the box that you would need. Setup CD and manual also.

Easy enough to setup. Touch buttons are a bit fiddly, but you get used to them quite quickly. Nice blue fading glow thingie. Multiscreen a cinch in windows.

Very sharp bright pictures at 1920 x 1200 using the Displayport. Nice clear, even image. Havent noticed any sort of input lag, but a) i dont play games at work, and b) have only had it for 1 day.

Good colour range, brightness and contrast settings need a bit of playing with, but easy enough to do.

In terms of image size/application/window scaling - I compared the size of applications with a fixed height and width in terms of pixels. The 19" is at 1280 x 1024, and the 27" at 1920 x 1200 - the applications come out at exactly the same physical size on both screens - so just about perfect.

For office work it is really exceptional and will definitley change the way that you work ! Will update this as I get used to the monitor . Pics below :

cheers regards Davy

its a fantastic monitor, i went from a 2407 to a 2709 and its great

only problem is the controls are a little fiddly especially when you switch inputs

e.g. 360 connected via hdmi and you turn the console of and want to select to go to dvi, it can be a little awkward as you have to wait to switch inputs whilst the dell goes into then out of powersave mode? or something like that. usually can take 10 seconds or even longer if its scanning inputs

anyone else notice that? or am i doing something wrong

From what I understand the DisplayPort is a new type of technology/port. I think some Apple Mac's have it and lots of Dell's. The work machines ae Dell and they have this port, so made it easy for me. However, you can get DisplayPort -> HDMI or DVI convertors if needed.

Out of interest how does it compare for gaming compared to the 2407? Any sign of input lag or ghosting? How did maintaining the same resolution on a bigger screen effect sharpness compared to the awsome 2407?

sorry had to ask are you saying the imput lag is much worse than the 2407 ? just been toying with changing to a 2709 or 3008 myself but wouldn't want input lag......also thought this was 6ms like the 2407...??

yes it's worse than the 2407, unfortunately that was the last of the good Dell's for input lag when talking PVA. input lag is not the same as response times, it's not the 6ms thing.

woops didnt see this thread

i dont tend to play much games but i reckon there is a little input lag comparing to a decent plasma and some other screens (ive had about 30)

image quality is great, one of my main concerns moving to a bigger panel and the same res would mean bigger pixels that may be too noticeable. But to be honest after a foot away from the screen it looks crispy clear, 3 months on and this screen still looks amazing

i wouldnt swap back to a 2407 again

also it was virtually a free upgrade from the 2407 for me :D
