Just a thought really, having been playing with the Windows 7 Release, its quite good though, very good infact...

My problem is im only looking for 2 main things/features from the new operating system, 2 which I consider very basic and very important - Blu Ray Support and FreeSat support, and these are 2 features, from which Im aware arnt going to be present in the new OS release, and 2 features im looking to make a significant use of.

Im one of those who didnt upgrade to Vista because it didnt include WinFS, though im tempted with the new OS but with these 2 "massive" ommissions, is the new os worth it??

I will be buying it. Its way better than vista but thats not saying much really because so is XP in most ways and Linux in almost every way.

XP was a great OS in its day, but back when I was dual-booting Vista with XP (but mostly using Vista), for some reason I was in XP and handling a lot of multi-GB files. It just felt sluggish and I even had a couple of BSODs. Gave up and did it in Vista, no sluggishness at all, I couldn't believe it. That was the point at which I dumped XP, I couldn't believe it felt that dated compared to Vista.

Back on topic, if the price is right I'll be buying 7. None of this 'will definitely be buying it' lark though, certainly won't be at several hundred pounds! But if it's priced at around a hundred I'll be giving it serious consideration, and if they do an Ultimate Steal for students like they did with Vista, I'll be on it straight off.

As has been said, XP was great once SP2 came out. But it's a 2001 OS and it shows.

It seems to be widely speculated that W7 will be the same price Vista was on release, and if so, I'll be buying it. Not immediately however, I'll wait till it gets to near the time the RC is going to expire.

At some point, yes I will.

Depends on what versions they release and price etc as to when but as GeForce mentions I may wait until the RC starts timing out before buying the full version. As hopefully by then it'll have been a few months and the prices etc should have settled a bit.

Not saying I haven't done a bit of dodgyness when it comes to s/w etc but the o/s is one piece I would never feel safe in having an illegal copy of. The recent botnet of Win7 zombie PCs being a prime example of why.

It's certainly very pretty and we all love new toys etc. Vista does everything you want but win 7 kind of does it a little nicer. I like the look and functionality of Media Centre but is that enough to warrant buying it? I do not think so, not so far anyway. Mind you, my desktop background justed faded very nicely to one of my 200 or backgrounds which is rather nice and could be worth getting just for that. I can not get Vista to do a nice fade when it switches background.

I'll definitely be buying it, I just hope Microsoft don't ravage my bank account too harshly, they need to be gentle damn it!

Id consider it (more so if my vista copy doesnt like being transplanted into a macbook over the summer)

Still it took me a while to get into XP (i was the worlds biggist 2k fan weirdly) and had the same problem getting to vista (i only truly gave in last year)....

If the price is right, I'll certainly be purchasing a retail copy. Also wont be untill we're close to having the 7100 build expire...
