Hi

Just sold something on ebay and was under the impression that ebay got a % of the sale price - fair enough. Tonight just got an e-mail asking for £30 for the month implying that this a monthly payment - they must be joking!

Any ideas?
Cheers

Might be being stupid here - but perhaps its just for what I sold in that month - seems high though as it would work out to be12% commission for them.

What was the value of the item??
E-bay fees arn't monthy, they do invoice your fees on a monthly basis though,
so if you don't sell anything next month you'll have no fees.

You should have read the ebay fee structure before listing, perhaps...

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/fees.html

You pay an insertion fee (based on the start/reserve price) to place the auction and then a final fee if it sells.

The final fee is "10.0% of the amount of the winning bid, up to a maximum Final Value Fee of £40.00".

So you could easily be looking at 12%.

Plus, don't forget PayPal fees if you are paid through PayPal!

They really do know how to make money!

^^ damn right :/

I recently sold an item for about £120, but cost me £1 listing fee, £11 final value fee and £5 paypal fee.

:O

I just sold an item for £55 and they tried to charge me £10 for the privilage. I emailed the winning bidder and told him that the sale was off, have emailed ebay and told them that i am not paying this fee, they have apparently started charging a final value fee or something which is 10% of the value. I will not be using ebay again.

Charge you 10 quid on a 55 ending price? :/ I don't believe you.

Also Buy-it nows still have much better final value fees for technology. Much better than auctions and listing fees really arent much. I never sell using an auction anymore. Just find out what the item sells for, put a buy it now listing and it nearly always sells within a day. A lot of buyers don't like waiting for auctions to end either.

They've always had a final fee, well they have since I registered in 1999.

I think their fees went up last year, with lots of complaints, but where else are you going to sell stuff with such a huge audience?

You can't do that. Well you can but you're a muppet for wasting ebay and the buyer's time because you didn't read the fee structure first.

I Can and I have. Please refrain from name calling, its petty and childish. At no point in the past have i even been charged such a disproportionate fee for selling an item on ebay until now, granted i have not used the service for about a year so it would have been a good idea to double check the listing fee's etc...

The Fee I was charged was a £5 (10%) Final Value Fee, £4.19 Listing Fee and whatever Paypal fee's they charge nowadays. All of which goes into ebays pocket. For the sake of a £50 set of ram i am not going to be completing the sale. Simples

You didn't check the fees then whinge afterwards, well don't expect much sympathy.

You should have listed the RAM as an auction for 99p, listing fee would have been zero.

yes it was, but as you clearly dont read what I post I will tell you again. The final listing fee has never been as high as this therefore i was not expecting the cost of the auction to go from £4.19 to £9.19 hence the reason for me cancelling the sale, Hindsight is a wonderful thing because if I had checked the final value fee changes before listing i would have seen this and reduced the bling on my auction.
