most expensive software you ever paid for?

I mean those who claim to never pay for software and using the excuse of everything they use is open source :). While I fully agree that there are those out there who do go down that route (at a rough and wildy unsubstantiated guess yourself included), they are in the minority.

Ah right, no worries I just read it a couple of times and still wasn't catching the drift. :o

My software is a mix of paid for and free/open source. Usually I'll look for open source/free beer software, then as a last resort I'll go and buy something. There is so much good free stuff out there, with video editing software being the only exception in my experience. Although I know a few people who won't even entertain GIMP over Photoshop -sometimes justified, sometimes not. I don't want to turn the thread into a free vs paid debate though. :D

Probably Cubase VST 3.5, quite scary to think that was 12 years ago, got it on educational discount as I was a student at the time so "only" cost about £350.

No need to buy MS software as have a MAPS subscription. :D

I love these kinds of threads and the number of people who will openly admit to piracy. And don't even bother giving it the "open source" BS.

Personally, most expensive would be Windows Vista Home Premium. Fortunately we get Office through work for delivery cost only :).

our MS licencing at work covers home use..

Guitar Rig 2/3 with hardware/control board: £240

I say 2/3 because they gave me a free upgrade to 3 because I bought 2 just before 3 came out and they were offering people upgrades if they had bought it after a certain date.

It's my favourite peice of software I've bought.

Omnipage 16 at $399 when it came out. I was so cheated. :(

Luckily the club paid for it. :D

I have boxes and boxes of games at home with all the manuals and keyboard templates and stuff that just won't run on a modern machine. No floppy disk drive to install from! Thousands were spent on those over the years.

Probably Empire: Total War Collectors Edition - £35.

In fact I had a £10 voucher so that doesn't count.

Can't say I use much software, usually just freeware/opensource it or give up.

I don't think I have ever bought any software  only ever really bought games. The first few PC's had windows included and then i used MSDN copies from school - Uni - Work.........same for office. I then use free software for everything I can.....

Donated a lot to freeware projects in the past, probably about £200 total

Bought AnydvdHd ~£40
Acronis ~ £25
Bought a few oem xp and a vista over the years

7zip
Paint.net
Imgburn

I rarely install anything else tbh, no need

Office for £18.00 delivery charge through work.

I shall be buying Win7 though when it comes out.

Esset's NOD32 for a one year @ £40 for three licences. I'll also be buying windows 7 when it's released :)

GetDataBackNTFS - ~£35

I screwed the GFs hard drive whilst trying to rescue my aunts, and desperately needed to recover the MFTs as both the primary and the back up had become corrupted! :O
