Just ordered a 4890 to replace my aging 9800gtx. Noticed its quite power hungry. I am wondering, am i going to need a new PSU for this? I have a OCZ StealthXStream 600w psu. Will it cut it? Running a clocked E8200 (on stock cooling) and 1 hdd if that helps.

also i was hoping to double my frames in games like arma and crysis on high/v.high settings, do you think this is a possibility?

Your power supply will be fine, you will see a increase but I am 100% sure how much though.

600W should be absolutely fine, consumes about 285W under load, 178W Idle according to review i saw. May not be 100% Accurate, but it deffinitely indicates 600 is enough.

As for frame rates, i would not expect double the performance

Damn. well, the benchies for it looked positive enough especially with AA on at a high res, which i need because of my monitor. Remember i have the sucky version of the 9800, the '8800gts repackaged' version, not the GTX+

i was under the impression that the 4890 was slightly behind the 285? and that thing eats everything...

Good to know about the power, i can still see them selling my PSU for roughly the same price as when i bought it so it cant be that bad.

thanks guys!
Oh god i've made a mistake!

Sorry if the mistake is obvious, i am extremely tired. and about to hit the hay.

What was the mistake?

Hehe, its just that i've bought a 4890 after seeing benchies and being blown away seeing its only £150

What resolution are you playing crysis at?

1920x1200 but it gets a bit too slow so sometimes i've got to put it down to 1680x1080 which looks horrid on my monitor. I can't have any AA at all or it drops to literally 5fps with 2xaa.

my 8800gts 512 owned crysis at that res, so i bet 4890 does to. bit overkill tho get at least 1680x1050

My current card would rape crysis at that res so i was slightly worried there. But to have it running smoothly with a bit of AA @ 1080p is what i want to see. Also, 4890's are meant to be good with ARMA2 which currently runs like pap on my pc on low settings.
