Hi, i am trying to buy a pc as quiet as poss for my gf's family that will run windows 7 64bit.
The budget is £320 MAX, no more, i realise this build is over that but if its the best for the money im going to convince them, but 320 is pretty much the max goal.

One ive come up with. This fairly quiet and the best specs for the money?
The mobo has HD audio which is good as her dad listens to lots of music and my gf does lots of photoshop.

The other option was either a 9500gt 512 or a 9600 512 insted of the ati card.

i'd be tempted by the 9600 but more personal opinion than any real logic involved in that decision, i'd personally go for the WD blue 160 gig drive just as i like WD. But all these are personal things, you've done well there on a tight budget.

Thanks :)
Does the WD drive make much noise, because if its been pretty silent for you i may swap over.
This is my 2nd build, i learnt from the mistakes of my build, i decided to wait for a good offer of the week and i think this week is the time to buy given the good oc bundle and the psu :D

oh no i didn't mean i had that drive in particular, sorry if i gave that impression, i meant i prefer Western digital as a brand and my mate swears by them. My black caviar 500gig has been pretty quiet tho no reason that shouldn't be. Up to you i'm sure they're both fine for your needs. Yea good call waiting for the offers they seem to have worked out pretty nicely for you.

Gonna go get some sleep now lol.
If any one has a good suggestion for a swap or change please post.
I will order it in the morning, hopfuly get it on saturday then :)

oh have you got a case for all this? just you haven't mentioned one thats all

Anyways night, i'm off to bed too

Not sure if you needed the case (none in first post) if not upgrade to 4GB ram or a slightly better mobo :)

I woke up this morning to find this lil beatue, think its worth convincing them to get this insted?
Even if its just for the extra hard drive space:

I think thats a great deal, I have that case and that cooler and the thing is really quiet. I do have a corsair PSU and a 4870 in there though, both of those are quiet too.

If I was recommending to anyone, I'd be pointing them that way.

Ive convinced them upto £350
Is it worth getting the pre build buy the ocuk guys, or it still better to build from scratch.
Thanks shadow wake for you setup, very good :-)
But they need 4Gb of RAM.

OR should i go with shadow wake but with OCZ Gold Edition 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 Dual Channel insted of the 2Gb (£39)

And Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Low Profile CPU Cooler (£14)

WOW! the graphics card has just gone up...FFS!
It was £5 over, now thats made it £10 so i cant push that far...grrrr
Should i just go for the OCUK one now, given that im going to be paying £10 more for a minor improvment on the ram a better cooler and building it myself.

Build it - it'll be worth it for the experience.

If the budget is that tight, and you're running it at stock speeds, just drop the 3rd party cooler.

You're going to be their first port of call when it goes wrong - better that you know the machine intimately - and the best way of doing that is building it yourself ;)

Does the black edition come with a cooler then?
Stilla bit p*ssed off that the card went up £5 whilst i was browsing the shop, because i was already on the edge of the budget :-(

The one you've got in your 'spec list' is listed as retail - so, yes, a heatsink/fan will be supplied.

Knocking the £14 off for the 3rd party cooler should balance the books.

Hmm, It works out exactly the same price to get it pre built than in pieces.
Now i dont know what to do.
If i buy built will it come with all of the boxes and accessories? Pre built has 1 year warrenty, but most the bits seperatly have 3 year warrenty.
If i buy in pieces will the black edition cpu come with a cooler in the box? is that what you are saying?

Think i may get it in bits given that it will cost £5 more and i can get the ocz gold ram.
I needa dvi adapter for the card though, cant find em in the store :-s

If the build doesn't go t*ts up it's always a good idea to build it yourself - because if she's a long time GF you're going to be the one dragging your butt over to fix any problems.

At least, this way, you have a good head start diagnosing any future problems if and when they occur - especially after 1 year as that would be when the pre-built machine would turn its responsibilty over to you (if she's still your GF that is ;))
