Faint "buzzing sound"

In the last days I received my new machine which is working very nice.

However, I have a concern - the machine is making a quiet but discernable high pitched "buzz" sound now and then, even when I am not using the machine but it is just switched on. It can also be triggered every time I open a new window, but not always when I close it. It last for about 2 seconds.

I tried to identify which component it comes from to no avail.

Is this something to worry about, beside the upfront annoyance about it making the noise in the first place?

Some power regulation circuitry has been known to do this (otherwise known as Processor Whine). I've got a laptop going back for a replacement because of this very issue (it's silent as the fan is on so infrequently, increasing the annoyance factor of a high pitched noise!).

I think my new ATI 4850 is doing it as well during gaming, but as I have headphones on when doing that it doesn't really bother me!

SO everytime you open a window (everytime) the buzzing sound starts? Or is it just coincidence?

I sometimes get buzzing noises its usually something court in a fan, maybe a small piece of plastic? if possible take off the side of the case and make sure there isnt a bee ;) and no random pieces of dust or debris inside the case :)

Edit:

Interesting post, i have noticed a high pitch noise coming from my GTX 280 in game from time to time, that must be the problem. It did puzzle me

lots of new graphics card do it, until this thread i hadnt put two and two togethor and worked out that the stupidly old laptop i got given which makes a bussing noise while moving windows around was probably the same thing.

My 9600XT used to do in back in the day when tabbed into a game, if I tabbed out it ceased, then when I got a 6800GT it went away.
