NATAL, Wii Motion Plus or Sony Motion Controller?

I think half the fun of interacting with an AI is abusing it and getting it to do funny stuff. Thats what made Sea Man so legendary. I'd like to see more of Milo. It looks interesting but we need to see some one actually demo it instead of it being staged.

watched a couple of videos and the PS3 toy appears to be realtime, while the Natal seems to have a half second delay between moving and seeing that movement on the screen. Any delay like that in the final product would ruin it for me as you'd need to swing/kick/jump half a second before you needed to for the game to reflect the movement at the right time. Based on that alone I think the PS3 is the better implementation at this phase of the development cycle.

Still think they should have used a lightsaber in the Sony demo.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but it came to me during the NATAL vids... They show a demo of a multiplayer game, albeit only a quiz. With the Sony implementation you would have to purchase 2,3 or 4 controllers (possibly 2 for each player) to enable multiplayer which would make it very pricey!

The Sony implementation did look extremely accurate and could work well with current games where i dont think NATAL will. I see NATAL more as a means of controlling the dashboard, movies and music etc - that would be awesome!

Having said that, the Nintendo one will probably sell the most!

edit: They didn't show multiplayer during the sony presentation - I guess you would need different colours for each controller so that the camera could follow it. I would be interested to see this working.

For in game applications i still think the Sony wand seems to be the most useful one, the eye still tracks moment as seen in the video, not anywhere as good as Natal but it still knows where you are. The lights also help it to follow you as does the supposed ultra sound used also by the wand, all in its like across between the wii mote+ and some of the motion tracking in Natal, put an analogue stick on the top and i think id be happy with it as a main controller. With Natal its use for "normal" games seems a bit more limited in how it would work in them. How are you going to change weapons? how you going to reload do you want to be doing this for hours ? etc etc, same could be said with all the motion controls to some degree. I cant see the point of saying in people saying "its a revolution in game control as you are the controller" then say oh you need a controller to do this and that. One thing i thought would be cool at first would be say head tracking in a driving game but surely if you move your head to look over you shoulder or behind you wont see anything as your eyes are not on the screen? As an interface for an OS or casual games i dont think Natal can be beaten its looks very intuative and naturel, its also very cool tech much like touch screen was. I expect as im no games designer i cannot see the bigger picture in how Natal is such a huge benifit in gaming, but many thought that about the Wii. I still in the back of my mind see MS using this instead of there surface tech for future OS and this is a way for them to start to get people used to it.

The nature of these devices (they can all absorb the costs and recoup with software profit if necessary) means the prices will quickly stabilise so that shouldn't be an issue.

just seems a more upto date Sony eyetoy jobbie to me (the NATAL), All they seem to have done its just incorp it into as OS that probably most will turn of when released because they don't have the device to use it

Apparently is is quite a beefy piece of kit hardware wise. Decent spec processor, 2 cams etc, which makes me even more worried about the price.

I guess we will find out more over time.

NATAL is actually quite advanced.. But without interactive buttons and such it puts limits on what can be done.. Unless they add some hand held controllers along with it. The camera and software that controls it is very similar to the motion capture technology we use at work.. only a lot less accurate.

The Sony offering looks like it will be much better for games, which lets face it is the most important thing.

None because I just want to sit on my fat arse with a controller in my hand :D Not dance around the room waving my arms around.

More seriously though its too early to tell since we have too few games to demonstrate what they can and cannot do.

i think natal is either going to live knowhere close ot anyones expectation or be ludicrously expensive tbh some of the things ive seen that they state it does is unlikely to be done by a £30 camera

Digital cameras are pretty cheap now and thats for a camera that has got to have zoom, flash and all the other functions it has got to have,
The camera they use will not have to have any of those.
The camera they use could possibly only cost £30 to £40.
