Breaking news: FOTA to form breakaway F1 Championship!

Lola and prodrive have said they have withdrawn and will not be in next year and "Brabham" are having legal proceedings taken against them by the Brabham family. the "brabham" team have nothi9ng to do with brabham and no right to the name,

even if they do get a full grid, the same tracks cant be guaranteed telling bernie to jog on might be a very attractive option for many of the tracks now due to the amount of money he demands for them.

can cosworth alone supply a full set of engines on such short notice?

plus it has been strongly rumoured that FI will also go with the FOTA due there current reliance on mclaren-mercedes.

Thats the argument and why it is going to court. The team obviously do believe they have the right to use the name.

Either way a name is just a name and one that you would hopefully replace with McDonalds F1 or the like very quickly!

What I don't get is that the two tier FIA budget cap was voluntary? with some technical allowances to allow the capped teams a bit of extra speed to help them compete.
Yeah, but come on, it would have been such a mess to try and implement fairly. Whichever side (capped or non-cap) came out victorious, the other side would kick up a right stink over the unfair rules by the FIA, or somesuch.

Hmm, The toy's have literally been thrown out of the pram's.
If The fota do Create a breakaway championship, their going to have to bring in some form of limits or it will be a ferarri / mclaren championship like the 1990 onwards, with everyone else acting as road block's.
Hopefully, if the fota creat a championship we can have the race's back in europe where most of the fans are. If bernie has his way all the f1 races would be in the oil rich countries with 1/4 filled stand's.

I just hope that the bbc get the tv rights for any new championship's as the sky sports package is a rip off for one program.

It sure is interesting times.
One problem I see is that the breakaway teams won't be able to agree anything between themselves, i.e. the new governing 'leader', the tracks they race on, tyre supplier etc etc...

I think the time scale is to short for any company to do it.
Think of all the testing that has to be done before the F1 teams test the tires.

They all produce tyres for various race series.

If they get 'given' a 2008 or 2009 spec car they could test whenever they wanted - no testing regulations to worry about.

Just like some teams getting round testing bans by putting the drivetrain from their race cars in road cars.

Its not just the testing its getting the right compound
Over 150+ different components are used in the manufacture of F1 tyres but the main ingredients are rubber

Then you have dry/wet/Intermediate all having different compounds.
Then desgn them all after that its to manufacturer.

IMHO it can't be done in the time scale...

Grabbed these photos whilst walking around the circuit today. These where stuck to a sign on the hanger straight:

!

It's going to court to get a legal judgement against them, as far as I know the family still own the rights and as such should know who they have given permission to. It questions the integrity and resources of that team, regardless of what they call themselves.

Speaking of tracks .. FOTA GP could use:

Adelaide
A1-Ring (owned by Red Bull)
Mugello (Ferrari)
Fuji (Toyota) or Suzuka (Honda)
Monaco
Silverstone
Long Beach, USA or Sebring or Laguna Seca (:D)
Zandvoort
Magny-Cours
Montreal

Then try to get the following F1 tracks
Nurburgring or Hockenheim (in the non-F1 years)
Spa
Interlagos

That is a decent start for a race championship.

FOTA should try get Silverstone to sign to an exclusive agreement for next season, that would screw Bernie and Max for a British GP (which sells out), cos never in a million years will Donnington be ready.

I disagree, FOTA should let Silverstone host F1 next year as well - there are still British teams involved in what would be a FOTA-less F1 - let them have a home GP as well.
