Post your bikes thread

Its the weirdest feeling on the beemers as you can feel them pulling to one side :D

It's to do with the throw of the crank,as you give it a rev the inertia from the crank(very heavy on a boxer)make the bike pitch a little.Remember on a boxer engine the pistons are both going out and coming in at the same time,so it has nothing to do with the pistons.
Guzzys do the same, also has a north-south crank

To the point of boredom I would say. :D

Was it not the Yam TRX850 that the engineers had to specially tune the exhaust note so that it "sounded like" a Vee?.

Personal opinion but I would rather have the blandest i4 than a parallel twin, I just don't see the point in 'em. If your going to have a twin, make it a vee. That's the way twins were meant to be. :p

The TRX was a bored-out "big bang" parallel twin, originally from the Tenere, and also used in the TDM850/900. Both pistons had the same TDC so both fired simultaneouly. This meant the motor had similar power characteristics to a a big single. Later TDMs and TRXs used a modified crank to fire the two cylinders at 270 degrees. This is the same firing order as a 90 degree V-twin using a shared crankpin, so it fires and therefore sounds the same. The disadvantage was that the parallel arrangement doesn't give the same perfect primary balance as a V, so a balancer shaft was also fitted.

Parallel twins do have advantages- one set of valve gear for a start, so generally less internal friction, they are mechanically simpler, and more longitudinally compact, so less chassis compromises fitting the motor in. The BMW F-800 engines are a good example of a decent modern parallel twin.

They also sound like an old Plane with a decent can and no baffle :)

(Excuse my bro and some random guy off the street in background!)

....9 days to Cadwell to get me and the bike fit!!

That's crashed pretty well for 100mph.... I'd crowbar the can out and ride it like that if you're doing another trackday- if it's rideable, it's pointless fixing it only to risk dropping it again.

Is the rad OK?

falling off is an occupational hazard of riding a bike. it happens. still at least you had good quality kit on. i remember seeing a 125cc rider crash racing at edwinas at mallory so not especially quick (about 50-60 i think) and how his leathers held up is the SINGLE reason why i'd never recommend anyone to get RST leathers. they fell apart and considering my wolf leathers had 10+ offs at 4th gear+ i'd say his should have been ok. they were destroyed. at least you put the money in the right place.

Ouch lol glad it dont look too bad though!

Just got back from my brands Evening Track day :D
What a Track! loved it so much lol! gotta go do a full day asap!
I went into the Novice/inters group (they only do two groups on evenings) and within 4 laps I think a Track marshall came out and told me to slow down lol, and at end of session was moved up to fast group lol, he told me I lapped everyone in the slow group within half the session...oops lol :p

I'm in no major rush to replace the plastics/tank etc. I did destroy the clutch res and footpegs though. Footpegs are ordered and I have sourced a clutch res and master clyinder. Plastics will be glued up on the weekend then it should be ready for Cadders....assuming I am fit enough, currently cant lift my arm above shoulder level :(

Rad is ok, mounts are very slightly bent but all good apart from that. Once back together will run it upto temp to check for leaks.

Just been out on the Mille for a quick run into town to pick up a few things. God, it is absolutely roasting today, walking around town in all the bike clobber!!.

Not bad once you get back on the bike and out onto open roads, but I was so glad to get home and out of the kit into a pair of shorts!!. :p
