Hey guys,

Just wondering if there is a tool available which will basically take an input folder full of MP3's and organise the whole folder into a folder structure like the ipod e.g Artist Name\Album\Song.mp3

Any suggestions?

I did mine manually, but then i've always done it so it hasn't been an issue. If you can, manually is always better. I have 4500 songs, it would be a pain now if i didnt organise it as i went along ahah

^^ Same for me, bigger my collection got, more it becamse clear I needed to organise, so I have a manual system which I now sort as I add new songs..

Once I install it all I have to do is import my music folder and it should do it automatically?

As long as there is enough metadata (ID3 tags etc.) in the tracks it will sort it out. When you change the metadata in iTunes it will automatically update the location but not the filename. You also need to enable 'let iTunes keep my music folder organized' option.

Might be worth having a look at Songbird, it is a similar concept to iTunes. Its interface is written in XUL (same as FireFox) which means it supports addons so there is quite possibly an addon to do what you want if it doesn't aready support it.

Yes, I'd go down any route other than iTunes too. Mediamonkey is an option perhaps. Picard and MP3tag might do what you want.

Sadly, your 'metadata' will almost inevitably be out and you'll have to manually fart about with a lot of it.....
