Tv License

I thought long and hard about this when we first cancelled as they kept saying that they would send someone round.

I knew that we don't have to let them in but decided that I would as I want them to see that some people don't have a licence because they don't watch TV not because they are trying to pull a fast one! The TV is not tuned in and has no ariel connected. The main ariel actually blew off the roof last winter so I guess we couldn't get a picture even if we wanted to!

Don't let their 'officer' in if he does turn up, he has no right to enter your property and it's a ridiculous invasion of privacy to have to prove a negative!

Surely that will just make them even more suspicious? may as well just let them have a quick gander and get them off your back.

Aslong as you're not using it they can't demand anything.

If they come to your door tell them to **** off.
If they anyone calls you up DONT give them your name.
Make sure everyone in your house is aware of the procedure.

Don't let them know who lives there, their initial letters will say 'to the occupier' or some shizzit like that.

what about if you have a sat/cable box but do not wish to watch or record any BBC programming? I'm guessing you still have to pay...but it seems ridiculous, because saying 'it isn't connected to an arial' doesn't mean anything, as long as you have an arial in your house you could potentially connect it at will...

I use my TV primarily for a PC monitor but as I get sky for free I have an hd box hooked up to it which I use very infrequently and if I had the choice between paying license fee or having BBC channels disabled on the box I know which one I'd choose...

The license is nothing to do with your ability to receive or watch BBC channels. The revenue just happens to go to them.

well that may be the case, but if so it makes no sense...if no one paid the license fee, the effect would be no (or much much less) funding for the BBC, it would have zero impact on any other broadcaster.

My mate at uni had the same issue. He contacted them and they said he was on a databse of not having a licence so the letter automatically got sent to him whether he had a tv or not. They told him to just ignore the letters
