Leon Cupra R any other alternatives?

R26 is a good shout, personally for that kind of money i'd be looking at a decent Impreza or Evo 7, but if insurance is a problem then get an Octavia vRS

I did wonder why you hadn't also considered the Octy vRS.
You've got 200bhp "at stock" and a basic Stage1 (Bluefin or similar) will take you to around the 240 mark.

I guess it would be personal choice on the looks.
I love the vRS - hence the reason I bought one last August.
I know others that don't get on with it.

Hmm

Quite a few decent shouts that i hadnt thought of, i generally stick to VAG cars but im open to a ST, seems like ill have to go a test drive a few different cars.

Insurance for me on the Cupra is £400, im 25 with 6 years no claims, im guessing a scooby or evo is going to be a lot more. id like to stick to insurance under £600 if possible.

Another shout for a DC5 here, but it depends on the practicality you need in a car? If it's easier to have a 5 door and better rear seats then it'd be the LCR, if you want a more focussed drivers car and don't need as much practicality then it's the DC5.

Also disagree with monkey boy in that all the focus ST's I see are (imo) more dated than any LCR's I see though this may be because they are a lot more common (commoner?)

They have a hell of a forum too (SeatCupra.Net) so any information you want just pop over there and it's more than likely already been covered!

I think it depends on what you like.

The LCR is a general all rounder and can be had for a round 6-7K. Another good all rounder is the Golf GTI but obviously will cost you more to buy. I think both cars should easily get you 30 mpg.

just checked insurance on a 2003 impreza STI and it came in at £800, dont fancy going back to the days of being 21 again when insurance prices were crazy

£800 isnt too bad for an Impreza!

My LCR cost me £787 this year at 21 with 4 years no claims!

Not too bad :)

Who was that with? (hoping this may help this person as well as myself :p) I just had a quote of £1020 for a new shape CTR and I'm 22 with 2 years NCB.

froma taxation perspective, you're best off with a 2.0 VAG TSI turbo jobby... really low CO2 for their power output...

the CTR is a 215g/km (£215)

the VAG will be 170g~ (£175)

the Scoob will be 257g+ (£400+)

CTS-Compressor 212g (£215)

if you are quibbling on a coupel of hundred on insurance, im thinking the additional tax will be problematic too!

Under 25 for a CTR will be over £1k regardless of who you go with really. Imprezas and Evo's are ridiculous regardless of age, just too many have been crashed!

I'd go with the Octavia, brilliant car, never go wrong on you and with a £500 Jabba remap you'll outrun any hothatch, they produce so much torque it's not even funny

S3 - AWD is boring!
Cupra R is a top car but not sure about the interiors, lovely planted feel though, great to drive.

vRS is faultless, it's a VW in drag

 Funny, i managed to get a quote on one for £1080 at 21 with 0NCB...

They won't "outrun any hot hatch". They're a good all round car and as good as they are, saying they're "faultless" is on the verge of fanboyism.

Personally i think you should go for a LCR for around 7k and if you feel like it, there is a mod list as long as your arm that you can do :)

Nothing wrong with being a "fanboy" if you honestly feel that way about a vehicle.
I've had my vRS for nearly a year now and I still drive around with a massive smile on my face.
And this is with the car at "stock".
Once my warranty runs out in January and she's remapped she'll be even better.

Not being a fanboy at all - I just think the Octy vRS is a lot of car for the money/insurance/etc
