Today's Interview... Zero Professionalism

I get there and there is a table in a big empty room where the secretary is and a few other candidates sitting around (one in jeans despite the email saying come smartly dressed). At this point I was thinking of leaving ..
AmDaMan bloody hates jeans!!

He sounds like a right power tripping ****
Agreed, letter his his boss should hopefully take him down a peg or two

My boss knows his stuff, but has never bigged himself up. The opposite in fact. This guy is obviously just a penis

Definetly write a letter/email to someone above him, I'm guessing you had an interest in working for the company (by the very fact you were at the interveiw) yet in the space of 10mins he managed to completly put you off working there, I'm sure his superiors will have somthing to say about that.

Also what a tool!

Don't bother with a letter/e-mail just get on with applying for more jobs and be glad you missed on that "treasure".

From what you've said about the company and the guy's attitude, it sounds like it might be a branch of a large company called the Cobra Group or DSMax that deals with door-to-door sales, and operates with a pyramid structure - not a proper marketing company at all.

I went for an interview at a local branch in my hometown; it was called Ipswich Marketing Services or something along those lines. The guy was about 25, very confident, and bizarrely didn't seem to care that I had no work experience at the time.

I got suspicious and Googled the name when I got home....hundreds of results going on about how dodgy they are...

In fact, I googled London Marketing Services and got quite a lot of dirt on them too, which further reinforces my suspicions about them. Lots of stuff in this thread about them:

I would like to mention that LONDON MARKETING SERVICES did make me waste my time going to London Bridge twice for what was also a sort of scam.

They pretend to be too busy to even tell you what the job is about and on the second interview they literally put you on the tube on the way somewhere!

All they do is knock door to door asking people to give money on charity and you're promised to get commission for that and a management role after a few months.

They're quite smart in the way they pretend is a serious job but it's a SCAM and a waste of your time.

Some info about how they work:

Obviously I can't be sure they're the same people you went to see, but the complete lack of professionalism would make sense.

EDIT: More info

I went today for an interview with London Marketing Service ltd (http://londonmarketingservices.com/) near London brindge and i can confirm that it is a real scam! and those are my review: As soon i walked into the reception there were another 20 persons like, if not more, me filling applications forms!! They have been doing that for long time, such as for more than 3 weeks (they must have so many positions available :-))) Some of them were waiting for more than 1 hour! Loud music as well as Marize said above. I left before to start the interview telling them to stop being ridiculous with real people looking for real job!! Fake heading in so many websites that only with trial days (which they make you do for free) they are making lots of moneys!!!

Talking about London Marketing Services... field sales...although they don't tell what it is for real...apparently it's against the law. Anyway was invited to a trail day after interview...19 year old girl was aking me questions on the way to the WHSmith's in Putney...and trying to persuade me that ur better motivated if you haven't got basic salary!:/ ...prob she's living with parents and is not overly woried about paying bills.
Need to say that!!- She took me to WHSmiths and made up the 'stand' for all the cosmetics she was selling in the doorway... No testers, cheap peace of black paper as a table cloth on a camping table. At this point i couldn't understand why they had chosen me, with a retail experience, working on a cosmetic counter for a very luxurious brand??!! I thought they were having a laugh, politely excused myself and finished before 12...we got to putney around 10, 10-30.
On my way out the girl gave me a lecture about situation on the market and told me i'll struggle to find any job.

Was the company in question EA Worldwide who work for Carphone Warehouse among some other bodies?

I have a similar interview some weeks back but it was quite the opposite (the rooms were small, the reception was small but the interviewer was hot and from abroad and it sounded like the receptionist was also from abroad (and also hot).

So yeah I enjoyed it and got offered to join them after 2nd interview for a full day experience program with one of their marketing execs but I turned the offer down as it wanted too much antiscial hours time being put into the role (11am to 7pm for example).

Sounds like it's the same thing that I went for an interview for. Maybe the same thing the OP went for.

The second day, they take you out for 'experience' which in actually is just a day doing door-to-door sales.

Urgh... in my younger days I got fooled that one of these companies were a marketing company aswell.

I had to go to somewhere north brighton with this really dodgy old guy, chain smoker and was probably about 50 something... felt like I was getting in the car of a paedo, was *****ing myself the whole way. Basically, we tried to sell golf memberships to people... total scam. Think we did about 5.

Yuk makes me shiver bringing back memories. :(

As for interviews, my most recent was with a bloke, who after 10mins I couldn't help thinking 'this gut is a ****' he was arrogant and clearly had not read my cv, slagged off his current team and answered his phone twice during the interview.

The rec con called me the next day to ask how it went and I told him I really didn't know :/

The next day I was called back to second interview, apart from being stunned, I didn't know if I cba to do a presentation and go back there - would I want to work with such a ****?

I thought the interview went well, but I didn't get the job. Not that I really cared that much! I actually feel sorry for the person who did.

You should have said...

"No matter how much power you have, and the fact your earning a decent salary still doesn't defer from the fact your an absolute ****hole."

i did exactly the same thing as this in edinburgh, i told the guy i didnt want the job half way through the day, and they still offered me it at the end of the day haha.

I'd be tempted to flag it up to HR - if the guy was just on an ego trip then they should be notified.

In some instances (dubious sales type positions you'll get the hiring managers deliberately being ****s in order to put you under pressure see how you react) - a very dubious stock brokerage firm I worked at very briefly worked like this - first interview was very similar to the one described in the OP - hiring manager bragging lots & and then giving lots of criticism 'there must have been some mistake, looking at your CV you don't look very suitable actually' - basically they did the same thing to every candidate and you got through to the next round by handling any objections and staying +ve. Second round was a phone interview where you had to phone up and pitch them as though they were a potential client - format was that the hiring manager would just say something like 'too wodden/bland' and hang up - expectation was that a keen candidate would call back etc...

Then again the place where that happened turned out to be a very dodgy company, either way flag it up to HR - if he's behaved like this to more than one candidate and it wasn't intentional then maybe something will get done about it - recruitment is expensive enough without some immature newly promoted 24 yr old messing it up further by having a big ego trip.
